Job Description

The incumbent will oversee the Strategic Relations Office (and possibly the Corporate Communications Office as well). He/she will be responsible for identifying, developing, managing, maintaining and leveraging the School's relationships with key external institutional stakeholders, in order to advance the School's strategic goals.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of the Strategic Relations Head:

  • Identify and develop initiatives that both locally and globally, will propel the School to be the partner of choice, for industry, government and peer academic institutions
  • Strategize with the Deanery to formulate initiatives that will take the School to the next stage of growth and success
  • Effectively engage with a variety of stakeholders to support existing relationships and partnerships, form new regional and global relationships and partnerships, garner new opportunities aligned with strategic goals, build international brand and increase institutional resources
  • Lead teams through a culture of professional excellence and accountability
  • Establish goals, key performance indicators, engagement strategies and timelines for team members; put in place adequate resources, systems and processes to track scaling progress and action plans, so as to measure success
  • Lead, coach, develop and retain high-performance staff members
  • Work collaboratively and persuasively across teams to gain buy-in and support in implementing strategic initiatives
  • Support the School's Management Advisory Board and build meaningful board involvement
  • Oversee the School’s Accreditation processes and MOU agreements
  • As the role may also involve oversight of Corporate Communications (to be assessed), it will be necessary to have an excellent understanding of brand management, communication strategies across multiple channels with multiple stakeholders in multiple geographies, corporate communications and public relations. It will also be crucial to understand their use in the successful implementation of strategic initiatives.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 10 years work experience (more experience much preferred), with a track record of initiative. It is important that the person be able to build cohesive and capable, high performing teams
  • Visionary, Analytical, Imaginative and Shrewd, with the ability to identify and exploit opportunities, and solve problems
  • Strong executive presence, communication and pitching skills to instil confidence, establish and build rapport with the NUS Business School community and its stakeholders, and to represent the School to external parties
  • Ability to think strategically, connect the dots, problem solve, exercise sound judgment and identify opportunities in a fast paced, demanding and ambiguous environment
  • Ability to rally teams to work collaboratively and achieve common objectives
  • Resilient, resourceful and able to work well under pressure
  • Experience in external relations, business development (corporate engagements), alliances and partnerships 
  • An extensive global professional network would be favourably viewed
  • Experience in corporate communications and public relations would be favourably viewed
  • Experience in Institutions of Higher Learning would be favourably viewed
