Job Description
The Department of Statistics and Data Science is seeking a dynamic and versatile Data Scientist who can act as Data Operations Specialist, AI Innovator, and Cloud Architect to play a pivotal role in the Department's digital transformation in education, research infrastructure and administration.
In addition to architecting and managing cloud resources, the selected candidate will be responsible for creating synthetic and sourcing for real-world data, repository management, optimising departmental procedures, and developing complex Large Language Models (LLMs) to enhance data access, summarisation, and search capabilities. This multifaceted role offers a unique opportunity to drive innovation and efficiency across our initiatives in education, research and administration.
Qualifications/Requirements/Other Info
• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Knowledge of Big Data frameworks.
• Strong analytical skills and hands-on experience with BI tools, including data visualization platforms like Tableau or PowerBI.
• Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Exceptional communication and teamwork skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Robust analytical and problem-solving abilities to tackle complex architectural challenges.
• Basic project management skills to manage timelines, budgets, and resources efficiently.
• A passion for Machine Learning, especially in the context of Large Language Models like ChatGPT.
• Possession of relevant cloud certifications and experience with DevOps/MLOps practices would be considered an advantage.
- Remuneration is based on a 12-month salary structure, with annual variable bonus which is subject to incumbent’s performance and the University/School’s prevailing remuneration policies.
- The incumbent will be emplaced at an appropriate appointment grade based on his/her individual merits.
