Job Description

In partnership with government agencies, the National University of Singapore has successfully pioneered the pilot phase of the Communities & Engagement (C&E) Pillar that provides meaningful service-learning for students and transformational impact for partners. Now, in collaboration with Department of Social Work, the Provost Office intends to expand this programme and hire several additional course instructors. Their roles and responsibilities include:

  • To deliver and drive outcomes for students through the preparation of course materials; conduct of tutorials, workshops and/or consultations; and assessment of the quality of students’ academic and service work
  • To deliver and drive outcomes for society through the management and coordination of volunteer service programmes with government agencies and community partners, including placement and induction training of students
  • To build, sustain and strengthen relationships with agencies and community partners
  • To supervise and support students throughout the period of their service-learning

Qualifications

Experience and knowledge:

As C&E education is relatively new in Singapore, we do not expect many applicants to have significant prior expertise. Training will thus be provided.  Accordingly, we seek enthusiastic persons who have a good degree from a reputable university, and who have interest to mentor youths at the university level in volunteer service work; confidence to engage stakeholders; methodical mind to plan, coordinate and organize activities; and personal effectiveness in communication and conflict resolution. The successful candidate should have a passion for advancing community engagement work with youths. Prior experience in any of the following areas are deemed advantages:

  • Teaching and/or engaging youths over a period of at least a few years
  • Project or programme management
  • Community engagement or own volunteer service work

The successful candidates will be offered in the first instance a two-year contract. Longer contracts would be offered at renewal depending on performance.
