NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates (CFG) adopts a multipronged, student-centric approach to help them make sense of their strengths, refine their skills, and demonstrate their value to employers. Beginning with the end in mind, CFG has developed a four-year roadmap to help enhance the employability of our graduates through a repertoire of skills programmes and industry focused experiential opportunities. This bolsters students’ assurance to grow deeper, discover their passion and explore multiple pathways.
 
Serving the entire spectrum of students from undergraduates to post-graduates, CFG offers more than 15 unit-bearing courses in collaboration with academic and industry partners. About the Career Advisor Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Career Advisor to provide guidance and support to law students as they navigate their career journeys.  This is a challenging, purposeful, and rewarding full-time role which involves cultivating industry relationships, developing opportunities and resources, and offering tailored advice to help students achieve their professional goals. We are looking for a collaborative team member who genuinely enjoys working with students and who will take the time to listen, understand, motivate, and support their career aspirations. Duties & Responsibilities:

•    Advise students on identifying careers that match their interests, values and   skills, and guide them to develop action plans to navigate the job market and enhance their employability
•    Conduct 1-1 and group coaching for students and recent alumni on career planning, development of job search strategies, resume and cover letter review, and interview preparation
•    Organise career events along industry themes and, facilitate workshops for students on essential career preparation and life skills 
•    Develop and implement experiential learning programmes to equip students with the relevant workplace competencies and life skills
•    Contribute to initiatives to promote career services and foster student engagement
•    Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with law firms, government agencies, corporate legal departments, and other relevant employers to understand their hiring needs and preferences
•    Work with employers to identify internship opportunities, training contracts, and other positions suitable for law students. Promote these opportunities to students and track student progress and success in securing internships, and training contracts/post-graduation employment
•    Collaborate with the CFG team and provide support for key activities and events throughout the academic year such as Career Fairs, and advocate CFG services and platforms
•    Partner with faculty colleagues and academics for specific initiatives such as mentoring programmes, alumni engagement and industry talks to improve students’ career readiness and employability
•    Other projects and duties as assigned, according to the needs of the University and CFG
 


Qualifications

•    A recognized law degree with 5-10 years of experience gained in the legal or related fields
•    Understanding of legal recruiting practices, including timelines, processes, and criteria used by law firms and other legal employers. Experience in employer outreach, recruitment, or business development, preferably in a legal context, is an advantage
•    Prior experience in coaching, mentoring and/or workshop facilitation with a passion to engage and nurture students
•    Excellent organizational, events management and presentation skills with strong ability to build communities, develop relationships and establish networks.
•    Proven problem-solving, business development and relationship management skills, creative, driven, versatile and able to work under pressure
•    Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with partners and colleagues to meet tight timelines and achieve goals
•    IT savvy, proficient in computer software (e.g. Excel Pivot Table) for research and analysis purposes
