Job Description

The Talent Development and Programming (TDP) unit plays a major role in CFA’s mission to integrate the arts into every aspect of university life, including facilitating opportunities for arts-based learning in a range of faculties while concurrently formalising programmes for arts training and expanding thinking through the processes of conceptualisation and creation of artistic works. It provides opportunities for arts appreciation, champions creative possibilities and inspires strong communities in and around NUS. 

 

TDP oversees 20 student arts excellence groups in music, dance, theatre and film. It provides training in leadership, artistic skills and production management for the 20 groups and extends opportunities for training in production management as well as performance opportunities. TDP also produces arts programmes that enliven the campus experience, such as the NUS Arts Festival and the ExxonMobil Campus Concerts. 

 

The incumbent has the oversight of the dance cluster and manages the day-to-day running of 3 dance groups including recruitment and retention, training, rehearsals, productions and external engagements for NUS Indian Dance, NUS Dance Blast and NUS Dance Ensemble The incumbent contributes directly to the planning and development of CFA dance cluster to ensure that NUS’s reputation for high performance standards continue to be met or raised. In addition, she will also take charge of NUS Indian Instrumental Ensemble. 

 

With the current direction from NUS CFA towards increasing greater broad-based learning, he/she will guide the students to deepen critical thinking skills through conferences, workshops and masterclasses and to contribute to a digital content platforms within NUS. 

 

As Assistant Manager for Talent Development and Programming, he/ she will provide support for Senior Associate Director and Assistant Director, TDP in the areas of developing interdisciplinary collaborations between the groups, encouraging faculty engagements, creating initiatives to further develop leadership skills in the members and proposing ways in which administrative efficiency can be enhanced. 
 


Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, Talent Development and Assistant Director, Talent Development, the responsibilities of the Assistant Manager, Talent Development/ Programming Division are as follows:

 

1. To co-lead in developing the direction for the dance cluster in CFA by assisting in the formalisation of a robust curriculum for co-curriculum training and working with professional practitioners in organising workshops and masterclasses.

 

2. To manage four CFA Groups namely NUS Dance Blast!, NUS Dance Ensemble, NUS Indian Dance and NUS Indian Instrumental Ensemble  

  • overseeing the day-to-day administration of the groups, including rehearsals, meetings and workshops as well as annual exercises such as recruitment through the Student Life Fair and elections of the executive committee, providing advice and direction for their annual work plans, as well as liaising with the tutors to advance in artistic standards,
  • guiding and coaching in show planning, financial management and production management
  • identifying and grooming members of these groups with the potential to lead to manage other artistic endeavours in the future.
  • to facilitate collaborations between groups, community arts engagements as well as to liaise with external partners, arts professionals and key stakeholders to develop collaborative projects and initiatives with CFA Groups.

 

3. To actively contribute to the development of artistic discourse in CFA and encourage the integration of the arts into other disciplines of study by working with other NUS departments, engaging with arts professionals, and nurturing students to create programmes, initiatives, forums, workshops and masterclasses and digital learning content on the Canvas Learning Management System and GeNiUSchannel.

 

4. To oversee the planning and execution of the annual Arts Leaders’ Retreat for CFA arts groups and co-lead in the planning and execution of recruitment programmes including the Student Life Fair.

 

5. To assist in planning and executing programmes within the arts calendar of NUS Centre For the Arts, in particular NUS Arts Festival.

 

6. To support the Assistant Director, TDP in initiatives to improve administrative efficiency through NUSync, Teams etc.


Requirements

 

  • Basic Degree in Humanities, Arts or Social Sciences, Arts Management and/or Education 
  • 3 years relevant experience in student group management or the programming of festivals, planning and coordination of events 
  • Strong interest in the arts, with a background in dance education developing youth-driven interdisciplinary work and arts integration. 
  • Excellent administrative skills to be able to meet deadlines and deliver work of a high quality as well as a demonstrated commitment to work in a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
