Job Description

The Collections form the foundation of the work of both NUS Museum and the NUS Libraries. Arising from the re-organisation of the NUS Museum and NUS Libraries is the creation of a shared Strategic Planning Unit that will oversee key functions such as Marketing Communications and Business Development. Specifically, the Marcoms & Development cluster will oversee:

•    Corporate History of the Libraries and Museum
•    Legacy Media and Relations
•    Social Media
•    Donor Relations and Management
•    Grants and Sponsorship Management
•    Fellowship Management

The Marketing Communications (“Marcoms”) and Business Development (“Development”) Cluster supports the overarching Libraries and Museum objectives through correctly positioning NUS Libraries and NUS Museum in the minds of stakeholders, patrons, benefactors, and users, driving down-funnel action in the form of physical and digital access, and loans and donations that contribute to the collections and resources for further infrastructural and content development.

Reporting to the Marcoms and Development Cluster Head, the Manager, Placemaking and Visual Communications will spearhead efforts to establish a strong and consistent identity for NUS Libraries and NUS Museum, translating strategic intent and top-line Marcoms objectives into tangible initiatives that span from the digital to physical realms. The Manager, Placemaking and Visual Communications will ensure the consistent development, refinement, and application of NUS Libraries and NUS Museum’s visual identities and marcoms messages across a spectrum of on-and-offline collaterals, experiences, and touchpoints, in a manner that best supports the strategic intent of NUS Libraries and NUS Museum.

Candidates should have a proven track record in multi-disciplinary project management involving placemaking and visual communications.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute various strategies and initiatives to enhance NUS Libraries’ and NUS Museum’s presence and visibility to reach audiences, with a particular focus on activating spaces within the Libraries and Museum to engage visitors and enhance overall vibrancy of the Libraries and Museum space.
  • Conduct detailed research and studies into any given placemaking project or communications challenge, from literature reviews to case studies, audience surveys and focus group discussions, in order to provide a sound basis for proposing solutions and concepts.
  • Actively identify opportunities and propose activation concepts, seeing projects through from inception, to execution, and steady-state maintenance or conclusion. This can range from creating augmented reality experiences, to refreshing wayfinding signage, developing and implementing a meaningful visual system for communications, and even site-specific events.
  • Propose and track meaningful performance indicators and measures of success for the above, regularly reporting these indicators to management and using the findings to inform adjustments and enhancements to these concepts.
  • Work cross-functionally across multiple business units and departments, coordinating inputs and synchronising efforts in support of the placemaking objective.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices, and serve as the subject matter expert for placemaking in the NUS Libraries and NUS Museum context

Qualifications

•    A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field such as User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Information Architecture, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, or a similar discipline.
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Art, Marketing or related fields.
•    Experienced candidates preferred, with a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in developing and delivering placemaking, user experiences and similar initiatives with a proven track record.
•    Fresh graduates with an applicable portfolio of past work (freelance, internship or coursework) may apply, but will be hired at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.
•    Proven competency with Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), basic web design (use of CMS, html code), creative collaboration tools such as Canva and/or Figma, as well as Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
•    Possess a clear passion for the arts, as well as the preservation of cultural heritage and academic learning.
•    Attention to detail and ability to “read the fine print”, understand strategic intent and translate it to a creative brief or proposal. Interested applicants will demonstrate this by submitting a cover letter together with application, explaining how their experience and interests align with the requirements of the position.
•    People-oriented personality, savvy networker who can build rapport quickly with a wide range of people and personalities.
•    Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional project teams. Takes initiative and actively seeks out and proposes solutions.
•    Strategic thinker who can effectively link outreach tactics with broader objectives.
•    Shortlisted candidate will need to provide a strong visual portfolio via email or during interview.
