Sustainability Engagement & Performance Lead

Job Purpose:

The Sustainability Engagement and Performance Lead is responsible for developing and tracking activities and programs focused on sustainability across KAUST, assessing the overall sustainability performance of the university, and supporting the Head of Sustainability in all aspects of KAUST’s sustainability strategy. S/he will capture the university’s progress towards sustainability excellence by aligning new and existing activities with KAUST’s sustainability agenda and collaborating with reporters and data owners across KAUST to gather content for internal and external reporting, as well as international rankings.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Develops sustainability programs and activities and provides technical support to applicable departments in incorporating sustainability practices in their agendas and operations;
  • Collaborates with applicable departments to maximize the use of resources towards sustainability awareness;
  • Develops sustainability-related events and activities;
  • Supports the development of the KAUST Sustainability annual report;
  • Elaborates submissions to international reporting schemes such as the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings and AASHE STARS;
  • Prepares applications for relevant sustainability networks and routinely benchmarks KAUST sustainability performance against other institutions;
  • Manages internal databases and supports the curation of KAUST sustainability media channels (website and social media);
  • Supports the design and delivery of sustainability workshops and educational campaigns to the University’s community members;
  • Creates marketing and outreach content with sustainability information;
  • Supports the Head of Sustainability in any sustainability-related efforts, as requested.

Person Requirements:

Competencies:

  • Able to assess sustainability performance, operational progress, and lead reporting duties;
  • Able to develop comprehensive reports for national and international organizations in the area of sustainability and to ensure KAUST’s sustainability strategy is on par with other higher education institutions;
  • Able to foster effective working relations with various stakeholders (including faculty, students, community members, and external bodies) to enhance and continuously improve KAUST sustainability efforts;
  • Able to advise on aligning existing department strategies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Knowledgeable in developing sustainability-associated communication materials, outreach activities, awareness campaigns, and training tools.
  • Able to effectively exhibit time management and organizational skills while being able to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to self-motivate, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment;
  • Excellent command of oral and written English;
  • Excellent communication skills, including but not limited to technical writing, public speaking, and oral presentation

Qualifications:

Master or higher degree in environmental sciences, natural sciences, or engineering (Essential)

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience working in the field of sustainability, environmental sciences, or renewable resources in higher education institutions;
  • Demonstrated experience in creating, managing, or coordinating outreach programs involving multiple stakeholders, preferably in higher education institutions;
