Position Summary
This is a full-time, permanent position at the Staff Scientist level in supporting KAUST Solar Center research activities. The position requires a strong background in solar cell device engineering, the ability to work independently, as wells hands-on knowledge/experience with high-tech equipment, which are critical and necessary to enable state-of-the-art research. 

Major Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain fabrication and characterization routines for high-efficiency silicon solar cells
  • In charge of daily operation and maintenance of PECVD & PVD systems, Vacuum Sputter deposition, Laser Tool System, Ink-Jet Printer, Screen Printer, ALD, and Annealing Furnace
  • Developing and testing QA/QC protocols for other types of device fabrication and their accurate performance analysis, especially perovskite solar cells
  • Develop preventive maintenance approaches for all the assigned equipment and maintain proper and complete operations and maintenance records
  • Oversee equipment availability and utilization, order require spare parts and consumables for the routine operations of the assigned equipment 
  • Work with other operations team members to provide general support to researchers for their lab related issues
  • Work with researchers, solving and troubleshooting issues related to devices fabrications and maintain the safety documents as per KSC safety policy 
  • Provide support to Operations Manager with general clean room operations, lab control system, data acquisition and data management systems  

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist Operations Manager in maintaining research equipment and scheduling preventive maintenance and procuring supplies for the smooth operations 
  • Provide day-to-day support to students, researchers and faculty 
  • Impose awareness of safety, hazards and occupational and health related issues, assist in maintaining effective safety protocols in keeping the clean room facilities safe

Competencies

  • Strong background in device engineering; Knowledgeable and/or experienced in device fabrication related disciplines/areas;
  • Experience and can work independently with problem-solving skills, while maintaining close interaction with KSC Faculty and Operations Manager; 
  • Experienced, reliable and available in maintaining equipment both regular and non-regular basis;   
  • Familiarity with university-based scientific and engineering research and graduate education, both mission and operations;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and foster a cooperative work environment; and
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Qualifications
Desired Qualifications :  

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) with at least five years of subsequent experience in high efficiency silicon solar cells or semiconductor industry, preferably in material sciences, or engineering, with a strong background in device engineering. 
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing equipment is required 
  • Requires hands-on experience working with PECVD & PVD systems, Vacuum Sputter deposition, Laser Tool System, Ink-Jet Printer, Screen Printer and ALD
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all forms of communication, along with solid time management, teamwork and organizational skills
