Faculty Position in Environmental/Analytical Chemistry

Updated: about 1 month ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

As part of a major initiative to strengthen its research in environmental science and engineering, the Environmental Science and Engineering (EnSE) Program in the Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE) Division at KAUST is seeking to expand research in the field of environmental/analytical chemistry. The EnSE program has established research strength in several areas to address the challenges of the 21st century.  We educate and train students to work on many of the world’s most pressing challenges related to sustainability and the environment, focusing on the intersection of water, energy and food nexus, and sustainable processes. The Middle East is experiencing rapid population and economic growth, along with demand for water resources. The water-scarce region is already faced with depleting water resources and tapping into non-conventional water resources, which will be crucial to propel sustainable growth.  Recognizing the complexity of non-conventional water resources, we are seeking applications for a faculty position (Open Rank: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) from outstanding candidates who are developing methods to better identify and quantify emerging chemical contaminants (e.g., pharmaceuticals, personal care products, micro-plastics, Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances), and to determine their fate and environmental behaviour, and health and biodiversity impacts. We are looking for candidates with strong analytical chemistry background to study emerging contaminants and their by-products in natural, engineered, or biological samples. The potential hire is expected to develop vigorous research programs that span across the fields of chemistry, chemical biology, and environmental science.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field, as well as a strong publication record in the top-tier journals of their respective fields. The successful candidate is expected to establish top-notch research activities that contribute to the EnSE program research mission to promote sustainability in water, energy, food, cities, infrastructure, and the environment.  The candidate is encouraged to establish multi-disciplinary collaborations within the BESE Division and across Divisions and Initiatives at KAUST.  Education responsibilities include teaching approximately two courses per academic year at the graduate level and student mentorship and supervision. Successful candidate is also expected to provide professional service at the Program, Division and the University level.

The position will remain open until filled.
