Position Summary

Leads enterprise architecture practices and applies them to innovative experience design approaches.  Develops models, frameworks, and reference architectures for smart city experiences. Identifies building blocks to be used in designing complex solutions. Experiments with new concepts through pilots and

proof-of-concepts.

Major Responsibilities

Provides leadership and facilitation for the design and implementation of solution architecture processes and artifacts.

Develops solution designs for experience journey maps and business architectures.

Leads the design and development of reference architectures and building blocks.

Manages the Architecture Review Board (ARB) process and reviews submitted proposals.

Collaborates with business users, IT subject matter experts, and customer engagement representatives to design

new solutions.

Participates in efforts to develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and standards pertaining to architecture practice.

Serves as a technical expert in regards to architecture concepts. Is called upon to play the solution architect role in complex experiences that span functional domains and that require broad expertise and strong facilitation skills.

Maintains broad knowledge of current and emerging state-of-the-art technologies and products.

Researches best practices and methodologies related to architecture and experience design.

Utilizes strong facilitation skills to get results while managing complexities, ambiguity, and conflicting views.

Identifies and drives opportunities with technology partners to co-design and co-develop new innovative solutions that are assessed and piloted at KAUST.

Works closely with software and mobile app developers to design experiences as part of early prototypes.

Applies agile approaches and methodologies that emphasize experimentation and managed risk taking.

Collaborates with experience designers to create end-to-end experiences that are integrated utilizing foundational building blocks.

Presents outcomes and results at conferences or seminars and helps promote best practices in experience design.

May supervise junior team members on assignments.

Mentors young talent and new recruits to scale best practices and to influence the culture of innovation and experimentation.

Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of his/her position.

Competencies (Skills Framework for the Information Age SFIA Level – 5 Ensure, Advise) 

Essential:

Solid understanding of the technology and business architecture practice.

Excellent planning, and organizational skills.

Ability to translate business needs into solution architecture requirements.

Ability to define multiple solution options to business problems.

Broad understanding of the technology landscape including application development methodologies, system design, cloud, information security, data management, and networking. 

Preferred:

Application of agile methodologies or frameworks.

Data modeling, UML.

Qualifications/Experience

Essential:

8+ years of information technology experience with at least 6 years’ experience in a functional domain such as enterprise applications development, business solutions, infrastructure design and management, network engineering, or enterprise architecture.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, electrical engineering, or related

technical disciplines.

Architecture certification, such as Open Group’s TOGAF, or equivalent.

Excellent English speaking, presentation, and writing skills.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline.
