Position Summary -

This position is for a candidate with a diverse set of skills and is capable of performing a wide range of Computing infrastructure and information technology functions to support the research and development projects of the Resilient Computing and Cybersecurity Center (RC3).

The successful candidate will lead in developing, procuring, installing, testing, updating, maintaining, and upgrading computing systems with complex hardware and software specifications to be utilized by various research projects. The highly qualified candidate will participate in building Internet-Cloud and Cyber.

Physical systems with professors, research scientists, postdoctoral fellows, students, and staff. Secondary functions include, but not limited to, interfacing with KAUST IT for support about data & technology policies, applications, and hardware and software solutions. Major Responsibilities

Lead the building of the computing hardware infrastructure for the RC3 Develop, procure, install, test, update, maintain, and upgrade the hardware assets. Support the project of establishing the RC3 lab. Manage and improve the network connectivity standards. Assist in solving hardware failures and manage performance issues. Proactively explore added value in the Hardware resources. Document and create workflows for repeated activities for team members to follow.

Oversee Information technology applications and software systems Define, procure, configure and manage software solutions. Implement programming solutions that support research projects. Provide training and expert advice to users as needed. Assist in solving software related issues. Develop and implement data security protocols for protecting operations, data and communications. Manage data repositories and archives to ensure availability, robustness and usability. Proactively explore added value in the Software resources. 

Interface with KAUST IT and vendors Ensure alignment with IT policy standards. Make recommendations to enhance the use of IT resources.

Contribute IT support to the Communication strategy and plans Assist in the implementation of the digital and non-digital communication plans. Provide technical assistance to the creation of digital media communication contents (postings, photos, announcements, etc. on the RC3/CEMSE website, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, and other medias). Document and create workflows for repeated activities for team members to follow. 

Perform other related ad-hoc tasks as needed

Competencies/Technical skills

Solid understanding of the technological and business aspects of modern IT systems.

Extensive proven knowledge of computer hardware, software, and programming languages, along with in-depth understanding of networking. General cybersecurity expertise, and security software engineering experience. Strong knowledge-base in higher mathematics. Experience in Web-based and internet technologies, DevOps toolchains, and systems administration. HTML5, CSS3, Java, PHP, SQL, Python, web programming, security principles, object-oriented design, etc. Webservices, multimedia content development, APIs.

Soft skills

Organized, structured, motivated, self-driven, and capable of handling many functions in a given day, etc. Excellent communicator with friendly, professional and cooperative attitude. Eager to learn new skills and willing to take on tasks that may be outside the boundaries of the role. Determined problem-solver with logical commonsense rationale and desire to help others succeed. Attentive to details, analytical and creative. Highly-available to support urgent needs of the team members even if occurring outside business hours. Anticipates contingencies and risks and takes appropriate mitigation steps. Fluent in written and verbal communications in English. Arabic is considered a plus.

Able to work independently and as part of a multicultural diverse research and administration team.
