Responsible for managing and maintenance of the microbial cultures and visualization of microorganisms at the Red Sea Research Center. The daily tasks include interactions with diverse researchers, cultivation of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms, microscopic and molecular identification of cultures, isolation and identification of novel cultures, cryopreservation, visualization through flow cytometry and microscopy.  In addition, it is expected that the successful candidate will be responsible for maintenance as well as training of new researchers in the microscope facility at the RSRC.

Responsible for managing and maintenance of the microbial cultures and visualization of microorganisms at the Red Sea Research Center. The daily tasks include interactions with diverse researchers, cultivation of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms, microscopic and molecular identification of cultures, isolation and identification of novel cultures, cryopreservation, visualization through flow cytometry and microscopy.  In addition, it is expected that the successful candidate will be responsible for maintenance as well as training of new researchers in the microscope facility at the RSRC.
Academic Division
Division of Biological, Environmental Sciences & Engineering
  • Maintain, characterize, curate and catalog RSRC biological collections
  • Isolate micro-organisms and maintain microbial cultures collections including but not limited to growing frozen bacteria, checking for purity and identity, and preserving.
  • Maintain and operate microscopes, flow cytometers, liquid Nitrogen, biosafety cabinets and autoclaves.
  • Work closely with faculty groups to assist and advise on best methods available related to the above
  • Train students and visitors on developing cultures and use of microscopes and flow cytometers
  • Curate RSRC specimen collections and supervise access terms
  • Assist with field work when required. By supervising faculty
  • Participate on lab related projects as assigned
  • Provide coverage for lab manager during absence as required and assist with Engineering Job Requisition (EJR) requests, calibrations and safety issues
  • Participate in Red Sea Research Center lab modifications and refits when requested
  • Solid knowledge and handling skills of diverse database resources to identify microorganisms.
  • Experience in working with microbial culture collections.
  • Experience with FACS.
