We are seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow or a Research Assistant to work on a project on Understanding Life Trajectories of Immigrants and Their Descendants in Europe and Projecting Future Trends (MigrantLife) funded by the European Research Council (ERC). The five-year project (2019-24) is led by Prof. Hill Kulu and it will investigate how employment, housing and family trajectories evolve and interact in the lives of immigrants and their descendants in selected European countries; and how factors related to societal context, early life context and critical transitions shape their life histories. The study will project their future life trajectories using innovative computer simulation techniques, considering the main life domains and diversity between and within immigrant groups. The project will exploit large-scale longitudinal data from the four countries to deepen our understanding of the relationships between the three life domains, and the causes of less and more successful life trajectories among immigrants and their descendants.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated researcher to work in an international team of researchers on a highly relevant topic. The Research Fellow or Research Assistant will join a research team to investigate the interactions between employment, housing and family trajectories among immigrants and their descendants. They will project future life trajectories of migrants and ethnic minorities, and will write up research results for publication in leading international social science journals. They will also help organise international workshops and will be responsible for updating the project webpage and Twitter. The Research Fellow or Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting projections using microsimulation. The candidates should have a PhD (Research Fellow) or Master’s degree (Research Assistant) in a social science discipline (including statistics, computer science and applied mathematics) or should be close to submitting their PhD thesis (Research Fellow); they should also have experience in handling longitudinal data and conducting microsimulation or agent-based modelling. Good communication and management skills are essential.

The post is available from January 2023 for 20 months (until August 2024).
