Applications are sought for a Laboratory manager/technician to work in the Neural Circuits of Disease Laboratory (https://ncdl.net ) with Dr Ilary Allodi conducting research for an MRC (UKRI) funded project entitled “Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: treating the circuit behind the disease”. We are looking for an independent, and well organised candidate interested in neurodegenerative diseases, with previous laboratory experience.
The postholder will work closely with the PI on several aspects of the project and will play a central role in the management of the laboratory. The successful candidate will work with the rest of the research team (including postdocs, PhD, MSc and undergraduate students) and will maintain contacts with the lab members and collaborators located at the Department of Neuroscience, University of Copenhagen (Denmark). The post includes both managerial tasks as monitoring of laboratory activities, scheduling maintenance of laboratory equipment, communicating with national and international brain banks, as well as technical tasks as handling the maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies (including genotyping and phenotyping of mouse models of disease).
The position is open to candidates with previous practical experience in relevant areas (e.g., neuroscience, biomedical sciences, biology etc…), and offers the opportunity to work in an excellent international team engaged in techniques including mouse models of disease, computational behavioural analysis, investigations of ALS human post-mortem tissue, spatial transcriptomics, and gene therapy.
The successful applicant will have a degree in relevant subjects, expertise in molecular biology and handling of laboratory rodents. An active Home Office Personal License (PIL) is not necessary, but the postholder will be required to obtained one (costs will be covered by the laboratory). In all cases, the ability to perform the tasks will be the primary consideration, thus we encourage applicants to apply regardless of personal background.
The part time position will be available for 36 months starting on the 1st of April 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
