2023 saw the establishment of the University of St Andrews Business School, through a merger of the highly ranked former Schools of Management and Economics & Finance. The new Business School is a hub of research, teaching and learning excellence, and organisational and policy engagement. Its mission is to work collaboratively and collegially to conduct world-leading research; educate a diverse and inclusive cohort of brilliant students; provide outstanding research-led teaching; and deliver a first-class student experience across all levels.

At this exciting time of investment and growth in the new Business School, St Andrews seeks an outstanding Dean who will provide vision, strategic direction and academic leadership, in support of the wider University strategic ambitions to be world-leading, diverse, digital, sustainable and entrepreneurial. The Dean will act as an inspiring role model and provide leadership across learning and teaching, research, engagement and academic enterprise, further developing the new School and ensuring that it continues to provide a world-leading academic experience for students and a stimulating environment for the staff.

With proven leadership skills and the ability to communicate a strategic and ambitious vision, the appointed candidate will understand the opportunities and challenges represented by the launch of a new Business School and the competitive global landscape it will be entering. They will be experienced in uniting colleagues across academic disciplines, engaging industry partners and delivering executive education. With strong commercial acumen, entrepreneurial flair and a collaborative approach, the Dean will demonstrate the ability to lead and deliver change while building and sustaining effective working relationships, both internally and externally.

Candidates should bring either a substantial academic / research background with experience of contributing at a senior level within an organisation, or experience of holding a senior role within higher education, business, industry or a consultancy and with a strong interest in, and empathy for, a research-driven academic institution. Candidates should hold a PhD, or a higher degree or relevant experience gained in the working environment, related to the strengths of the University.
