Part-time: 15.5 hours per week (0.43 FTE) – annualised hours, no fixed work pattern
One member of part-time staff is required to join a team of Student Services staff providing support to students outside of normal working hours.
Your primary role will be to respond to a range of situations where students may require immediate assistance, and to assess the situation and provide both appropriate support and ongoing referral to either internal or external services e.g. NHS, Ambulance Service, Police or other agencies. This may include support with physical health, mental health and/or issues which may require the attendance of the Police. You will also be the first point of contact for any person who has concerns for the safety and wellbeing of a student.
The postholder will provide specialist support as part of a larger team of University staff who work outside of normal working hours, to provide a package of support to students and those who are concerned about the safety and wellbeing of students. Alongside this you will be required to provide online and telephone support for students presenting with a variety of personal and emotional issues, complementing the work that our daytime staff undertake. You will also be available to provide support for any other situations that involve members of the University community, especially staff.
The purpose of this post is to reinforce the existing Critical Response team. The postholder will provide flexible back up to cover annual leave and any additional support required throughout the year. There is no fixed work pattern, although the majority of hours can be arranged in advance. The working hours will include evening, overnight and weekend work.
You must have a degree or equivalent professional qualification in one of the caring professions and experience of working with statutory services. The postholder must be able to manage and deal with acute and stressful situations, and to assess and manage risk effectively and autonomously.
