University of Bucharest announces an open position for Scientific Researchers degree I within the research project entitled “Climate- and tectonics-related surface processes in the Southern Carpathians and Northern Balkan Mountains. A geochronological approach at different timescales (ChronoCaRP)”, Contract no. 760055 from 23.05.2023, project code CF 253/29.11.2022, PNRR-III-C9-2022 - I8, implemented within the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest.

The person who will occupy this position will be involved in the activities within the project regarding the analysis of the evolution of the Danube Valley in the gorge sector and the Oltenia Plain sector. This implies geomorphological mapping of Danube terraces, interpretation of morphometric analysis results in the analysed sector, participation in the collection of sediment samples from Danube terraces for dating by optically stimulated luminescence and cosmogenic nuclides, interpretation of the resulting geochronological data and modelling of terrace ages, dissemination of results obtained from the scientific research and participation in drafting reports and scientific articles on the topic.

Skills/Qualifications

The person who will occupy this position will be involved in the activities within the project regarding the analysis of the evolution of the Danube Valley in the gorge sector and the Oltenia Plain sector. This implies geomorphological mapping of Danube terraces, interpretation of morphometric analysis results in the analysed sector, participation in the collection of sediment samples from Danube terraces for dating by optically stimulated luminescence and cosmogenic nuclides, interpretation of the resulting geochronological data and modelling of terrace ages, dissemination of results obtained from the scientific research and participation in drafting reports and scientific articles on the topic. The candidate must have research and development activity in the specialty or in higher education for at least 9 years and the scientific title of doctor; for candidates coming from outside higher education or scientific research, 15 years of experience in the job profile (according to Law no. 319/2003 on the Status of Research and Development Personnel).


Specific Requirements

A. Specific requirements for job application:

1. PhD title obtained in the field of Earth Sciences;

2. Holds the right to conduct doctorates by holding the habilitation certificate or, as the case may be, the right to conduct doctorates, obtained before the entry into force of Law no. 1/2011 or equivalent;

3. Research experience in fluvial geomorphology;

4. Experience in reconstruction of paleo-riverbeds;

5. Experience working in interdisciplinary teams;

6. Knowledge of the Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);

7. Knowledge of English language.

B. Job contest thematic:

1. Hypotheses and theories in the formation of transverse valleys;

2. Methods of studying river terraces;

3. Application of geochronological methods in modelling the ages of terraces and reconstructing the morphometry of paleo-riverbeds;

4. The relationship between valley evolution and paleoclimatic conditions by estimating river incision rate.
