Job Description:

Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS is looking for a senior scientist specialized in Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) to join the Intelligent Systems Group .

The Senior Scientist role is highly strategic for Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS’s quest to create scientific knowledge capable of generating added value for its clients and partners. As a Senior Scientist at AICOS, you will create purposeful technology to promote economic growth, social well-being and improve the quality of life of its end-users.

Working within the Intelligent Systems Group, you will lead the topic of MLOps and interact with researchers from different backgrounds to conceptualize, plan and develop new tools and pipelines to deploy impactful AI-based solutions.

Your responsibilities:

  • Employ and disseminate state-of-the-art methods and best practices crossing the entire Machine Learning (ML) pipeline, from data storage and annotation to pre-processing, modelling and (scalable) deployment, as well as CI/CD and model monitoring;
  • Plan and guide developments in Privacy-preserving ML, Federated Learning, Edge computing, Multi-platform ML deployment, and version control of data, code, and models;
  • Be updated on the latest scientific findings, technologies and innovations in this area of specialization;
  • Collaborate with teammates, clients, partners, and domain experts to plan the MLOps tasks in the development of new AI solutions;
  • Contribute to the detailed documentation of ML projects and SW produced.

Academic Qualifications:

PhD or MSc degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related studies.

Requirements:

  • Excellent programming skills (C/C++ and Python preferred);
  • Demonstrated Machine Learning background, with relevant hands-on experience deploying ML models onto production environments;
  • Demonstrated experience with data warehousing and ETL frameworks;
  • Proficiency in productization technologies such as (REST) APIs, Docker containers, Kubernetes;
  • Experience in version control of code (e.g., Git), data (e.g., DVC) and models (e.g., MLFlow);
  • Excellent English communication skills (technical and business audiences).
