A competition is open for the attribution of 1 contract in the framework of the Project NANOBIOESCUDO- Tecnologias bio-inspiradas de nova geração para prevenção da bioincrustação marinha, with the reference COMPETE2030-FEDER-01194000, within the R&D Institution CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research), supported by Programa Inovação e Transição Digital (COMPETE 2030), Portugal 2030, according to the following conditions: 

 

  • Scientific area: Biotechnology
  • Admission requirements: Any national, foreign and stateless candidate(s) who hold a Bachelor’s degree or integrated Master's degree in Biological Sciences, Marine Biotechnology, or in a related field; and a scientific and professional curriculum whose profile is suited for the activity to be performed, focused on marine biotechnology, specifically antifouling coatings validation and development. Experience in natural-based anti-fouling prototypes, validation bioassays (lab scale) and in situ tests to evaluate the efficacy of antifouling coatings, will be regarded as a plus. Candidates should be able to communicate orally in both Portuguese and English and in written form in English language.
  • If the degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, said degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August until the signature of the contract.

     

  • Work plan: The selected candidate will join the BiO team and will be enrolled in antifouling coatings validation and development. The selected candidate will also participate in laboratory management (orders, inventories), data curation, and writing manuscripts and reports. The technician will participate in project meetings and in dissemination.
  •  

  • Legislation and official rules: Article 140, n. 2, g)) and Article 148, n. 4, of the Labor Code (Law 7/2009, of 12 February and respective updates).
  • Work place: The work will be carried out in the Bioinspired Ocean Interfaces Research Group at CIIMAR – Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research, Novo Terminal de Cruzeiros do Porto de Leixões, Av. General Norton de Matos s/n, 4450-208 Matosinhos, Portugal, under the supervision of Joana Almeida.
  • Duration of the contract: An unfixed-term employment contract scheduled to September 2026, under the legal terms in force (Labor Code).
  • Monthly salary: Equated to the higher technical career, level 19: gross monthly salary € 1657,04; food, holidays and Christmas allowance apart 
  • Selection methods: The ranking of candidates will be performed by an initial evaluation based on a global appreciation of the candidates’ merit (A) and motivation (B), valued from 1 to 10, and will be made on the basis of the evaluation of their scientific curriculum vitae track-record, in particular the quality of their research outputs related to the subject area of the present call. One or both of the referees indicated by the candidates with similar highest final scores might be contacted at this stage to provide reference letters. If needed, an interview may be carried out, in which case all candidates scored higher than 7 will be summoned to the interview.
  • If an interview takes place, its objective is solely to clarify issues related to their application, namely regarding their curricular and professional achievements. In this case, the interview will have a relative weight of 0.3 and the previously communicated score will have a relative weight of 0.7.

    The evaluation of the professional track record relates to the relevance, timeliness, quality and adequacy to the current project and will focus on the research activities from the past 5-years that the candidate considers more relevant (as highlighted in their application). This 5-year period can be increased, if justified and asked for by the candidate, on account of disease, maternity/paternity leave, or other duly justified period of unavailability to work.

  • Form of Advertising/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published through a list sorting the candidates according to their attributed marks, on the CIIMAR website and by e-mail; 
  • After the announcement of the results, candidates are considered automatically notified to, if they wish to do so, comment on the results on a preliminary hearing period within 10 working days after that date, as provided for in the Código do Procedimento Administrativo

    The jury reserves the right to not assign the grant depending on the quality of the applications. 

    In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the next candidate with the highest evaluation score will be notified immediately. 

    Based on the final sorted list of the candidates it will be made a reserve list that will be used for the future recruitment of grantees for this project. 

     

  • Deadline for application and presentation of applications: The competition is open from 29/7 until 11/8/2026. The applications must be formalized, compulsorily, by sending the following documents: 
  • -motivation letter with the indication of the reference of the competition (as indicated in this announcement); 

    -detailed Curriculum vitae with clear specifications of i) contact e-mail address and phone number and two reference contacts (name, e-mail and current position); ii) list of peer-reviewed publications, thesis, books and/or reports that prove the experience in the above-mentioned fields; iii) certificates (copy) of the previous academic degrees, specifying mandatorily the final classification; 

    -for degrees obtained abroad, proof of recognition of academic degrees assigned by foreign higher education institutions and registration of the conversion of the final classification (GPA) to the Portuguese classification scale; 

    -any other documents that the candidates may recognize as relevant to demonstrate the adequacy to the function.
