Offer Description

A call is open for the allocation of 2 (two) Scientific initiation fellowships for students enrolled in PhD Courses (BI) within the scope of the Research Project entitled Research Centre in Sports Sciences, Health Sciences and Human Development - Strong Community (CIDESD: UIDB/04045/2020), supported by national funds through the budget of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), taking place at the Research Project entitled Research Centre in Sports Sciences, Health Sciences and Human Development (CIDESD) of the University of Beira Interior (https://www.ubi.pt/entidade/CIDESD ), under the following conditions:

 

Research Field: Sport Sciences.

 

Objectives: To complement existing scientific training initiatives within the activities of the STRONG Community and offer R&D internships in teams with on-going research projects in CIDESD.

 

Work plan: The research plans for each fellowship are:

 

BII 1: Integrated development of clinical exercise programs

BII2: Evaluation and control of training in different populations.

 

In all individual grants, the work plans are, with special emphasis on the topics:

- Participation in organization, collection and data entry within the research activities of the STRONG Community

- Participation in data collection and bibliographic research within the scope of research activities of the STRONG Community;

- Laboratory support in the collection and processing of data within the scope of research and development projects;

- Participation in the preparation of technical-scientific dissemination documents of the main results of projects developed within the STRONG Community

- Participation in different scientific dissemination events within the STRONG Community.

 

Applicable legislation and regulations: Statute for Scientific Research Fellows, approved by Portuguese law nº 40/2004, of 18 of August, in its current form (amended by Decree-Law nº 123/2019, of 28 of August; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology (Regulation nº. 950/2019) published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, nº. 241, 16 December 2019; amended by Regulation nº. 643/2021 published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, n. º 135 of 14 July 2021.

 

Work location: The work will be carried out:

BI1: At the Research Center for Sports, Health and Human Development – Center of the University of Beira Interior, Rua Marquês de Ávila e Bolama, 6201-001 Covilhã, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Henrique Pereira Neiva ([email protected] ), Assistant Professor at the University of Beira Interior and co-supervision of Doctor Dulce Esteves ([email protected] ), Associate Professor at the University of Beira Interior.

BI2: At the Research Center for Sports, Health and Human Development – Center of the University of Beira Interior, Rua Marquês de Ávila e Bolama, 6201-001 Covilhã, under the scientific supervision of Daniel Almeida Marinho ([email protected] ), Full Professor at the University of Beira Interior

 

Fellowship duration and conditions: The fellowship is for five months, expected to start in March 2024, and can be renewed for an equal period of time. The activity is in regime of exclusive dedication in accordance with the RBIUBI.

 

Selection Committee: Applications will be assessed by a panel, as follows:

President: Doctor Daniel Almeida Marinho, Full Professor at Universidade da Beira Interior;

Member: Doctor Mário António Cardoso Marques, Full Professor at Universidade da Beira Interior;

Member: Doctor Maria Dulce Leal Esteves, Associate Professor at Universidade da Beira Interior;

Member: Doctor Henrique Pereira Neiva, Auxiliar Professor at Universidade da Beira Interior;

Member: Doctor Ricardo Manuel Pires Ferraz, Auxiliar Professor at Universidade da Beira Interior;

Member: Doctor Ana Sofia Ruivo Alves, Auxiliar Professor at Universidade da Beira Interior.

 

Documents for application: The candidates should present:

. Motivation letter;

. Detailed Curriculum Vitae;

. Proof of registration in the 1st cycle of studies leading to a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Sciences or in the 2nd cycle of studies leading to a Master degree in Sport Sciences (can be replaced in the application phase by a declaration of honour);

. Other documents considered relevant;

. Declaration of honour from the candidate stating that he/she meets the conditions for being award the scholarship according to Articles 5, 6 and 7 of the RBIUBI, respectively, for the fellowship of BII typology.

 

Receipt of applications: Applications should be addressed to the President of the Jury, Doctor Daniel Almeida Marinho and should be sent by registered mail or delivered to the Department of Sport Sciences, Universidade da Beira Interior, Convento de Santo António, 6200-001 – Covilhã. In both cases, must be received in a closed envelope, properly identified as “Concurso para atribuição de uma Bolsa de Iniciação à Investigação (BII), no âmbito da Unidade de Investigação - Centro de Investigação em Desporto, Saúde e Desenvolvimento Humano - (CIDESD – UIDB/04045/2020) – STRONG

 

Publication/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation process will be published in a sorted list, by the final classification obtained, and posted in a visible and public place of the Department of Sport Sciences of the University of Beira Interior. The candidate(s) will be notified of the decision by e-mail.

To be a student registered in the 3rd cycle of studies leading to a PhD degree in Sport Sciences.  The proof of registration in the 3rd cycle of studies is required for the fellowship contract process.

A monthly maintenance allowance will be granted according to Annex I of RBIUBI, with the amount of 1 144,64€ according to the updated values that can be consulted at https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores .


Eligibility criteria

To be a student registered in the 3rd cycle of studies leading to a PhD degree in Sport Sciences.  The proof of registration in the 3rd cycle of studies is required for the fellowship contract process.


Selection process

The selection and ranking of candidates will be based on: a) Academic Qualification (HA): average classification of completed academic years; b) Professional/Academic Experience, in the area of the fellowship and in the scope of the work plan to be developed (EPA); c) Specific knowledge in the area of the fellowship and in the scope of the work plan to be developed (CE); d) Motivation letter (CM); and Interview (E). The final classification (CF) will be obtained through the formula: CF = [0,30×HA+ 0,20×EPA+ 0,20×CE+ 0,15×CM+ 0,15xE], between 0 to 20 values and adjusted to decimal numbers.

Complaint and Appeal Procedures: After communication of the provisional lists of the results in the different phases of the selection process (Admission and Exclusion, Curricular Evaluation), the candidates have 10 working days to pronounce their disagreement, under the terms of article 121 and following of the Código do Procedimento Administrativo. If any allegations are presented, the final decision will be issued after the analysis of the statements presented during the prior hearing of interested parties. After the statutory deadline of 10 working days, the proposal for the final classification and ranking of the candidates becomes definitive.
