CALL FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS

INESC MN is now accepting grant applications to award 3 Research Grants (BIC) within the scope of the MAG-ID project: “Novel identification solution for track & trace based on magnetic recordings”, which is financed by the European Commission with the contract H2020-FTI-870017.

1. DESCRIPTION OF THE GRANT

Type of grant: Three (3) Research grants (BIC)

General scientific area: Physics

Scientific subarea: Applied Physics

Grant duration: 5 months, starting as soon as possible and possibly renewable

Scientific advisor: Susana Freitas

Workplace: INESC MN, Lisboa, Portugal

Maintenance stipend: €446,12, according to the table of monthly maintenance stipend for FCT grants, paid via bank transfer.

  • OBJECTIVES:
  • The candidates will support the development of a new magnetic strategies and advanced thin films, under the above specified project.

  • BRIEF PRESENTATION OF THE WORK PROGRAMME AND TRAINING:
  • Position Grant_1 – Definição de nanoestruturas por litografia (e-beam): nanofabricação de filmes finos magnéticos para sensores de ultra-alta resolução.

    Position Grant_2 –Optimização de filmes finos e sensores de hidrogénio para aplicação em “Spintrónica verde”. Comparação de modelos teóricos com resultados experimentais.

    Position Grant_3 – Materiais avançados para spintrónica, em multicamadas de filmes com interfaces ferromagnética / antiferromagnética. Optimização da estrutura cristalina de filmes ultra-finos com feixe assistido ou aquecimento durante a deposição.

    For each of the three positions, the candidate will be involved in the fabrication and characterization of the magnetic devices and the optimization of materials and nanofabrication processes. They will also be involved in the discussion of the results.

  • REQUIRED PROFILE:
  • Admission requirements:

    • The candidate should be registered in the 2nd cycle of studies, in Physics engineering or closely technology areas
    • The awarding of the grant is dependent on the applicants' enrolment in study cycle or non-award courses of Higher Education Institutions.

    Preference factors:

    The candidate should also show:

    - basic knowledge in solid state physics

    - interest in thin film nanostructures and nanoelectronics

    - availability for experimental activities in the laboratory

    Minimum requirements:

    • Excellent command of Portuguese and English (written and spoken)
    • Immediate availability

    5. EVALUATION OF APPLICATIONS AND SELECTION PROCESS:

    Selection criteria and corresponding weight:

    The juri will evaluate the Academic performance and the suitability of the candidate for the tasks to be performed, based on the criteria referred to in Article 12 of the Regulations for Studentships and Grants of INESC MN. All factors are evaluated on a scale of 0 to 100, considering the applicants' merit, suitability and conformity with the preference factors.

    The weight factors are as follows: Academic Qualifications (AQ, 50 %), Experience (EX, 30%) and Motivation Letter (20%).

    Release of results and prior hearing: the results of the selection process, as well as the terms and procedures for prior hearing, will be released to the applicants by email, under the terms referred to in Article 13 of the Regulations for Studentships and Grants of INESC MN.

    6. FORMALISATION OF APPLICATIONS:

    Application Documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae (must include the list of previous grants, their type, beginning and end dates, funding entities and host institutions);
  • Certificate or diploma degree dully recognised in Portugal;
    • Documents proving the awarding of academic degrees and diplomas, or the according recognition - in cases of academic degrees or diplomas granted by a foreign higher education institution - can be dismissed in the application process, and replaced by the applicant's declaration of honour, with the verification of said condition taking place during the grant's hiring stage.
  • Proof of enrollment in a degree awarding study cycle or in a non degree awarding Higher Education program.
    • document proving the applicants' enrolment in study cycle or non-award courses of Higher Education Institutions.
  • Signed declaration stating the infringement of the grant holder's duties (article 14, no. 4)
  • Documental evidence to support the country of residence, residence permit or other legally equivalent document, in cases where the applicant is a foreigner or non-resident in Portugal - valid until the beginning of the grant.
  • Other supporting documents relevant to the final assessment.
  • Failure to deliver the required documents within the 90-day period after the date of the notice of the conditional awarding of the grant implies its cancelation.

    7. BINDING LEGISLATION AND REGULATION

    The hiring process shall comply with the current legislation regarding the Research Grant Holder Statute, approved by Law no. 40/2004 of August 18, in its current wording, as well as by the Grants Regulation of INESC MN.
