A call is now open for the attribution of one (1) Research Grant within the scope of the project Factory of the Future: Smart Manufacturing, ref. POCI-01-0247-FEDER-039479, co-financed by FEDER, through the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalization (POCI) - COMPETE 2020, under Portugal 2020, in the terms of the “Aviso de Abertura de Concurso n.º 26/SI/2016” as defined in paragraph a) of no.1 of article 62nd of “Regulamento Específico do domínio da Competitividade e Internacionalização (RECI)” Ordinance No. 57 -A/2015, of February 27th , in order to execute, develop and participate in the research and development project indicated above.

Duration of the research grant(s): The research grant will last for 3 months, starting on October 1st of 2021. The research grant contract will eventually be renewable, in the case of master's students up to two years, in the case of masters enrolled in a doctorate up to four years and in the case of masters enrolled in a course that does not lead to an academic degree, up to one year. Under no circumstances may research grants exceed the maximum duration of the project and/or the applicable legislation.

Host Unit and Scientific Orientation: The work will be developed in CMEMS of School of Engineering of University of Minho – Campus Azurém, under the scientific guidance of the Professors Cristina Manuela Peixoto dos Santos and Paula Machado Sousa Carneiro.

Work Plan: The work plan is included in the Sub-Project ID&T 3 - “Production Process” in the line “Innovative industrial human-robot collaborations for improved ergonomics competitiveness”, in the profile “Msc Engenharia Humana” (profile 29), in the activities/tasks associated with the period concerning the course effective of the research grant. The work plan consists in the acquisition and treatment of data to postural evaluation, as well as in the simulation of human-robot interaction tasks through specific software and the analysis of fatigue. It also addresses the integration of different systems in the workstation

This research context and methodological approach is adequate for the realization of the master's dissertation, in the case of candidates enrolled in 2nd cycle courses, such as Masters or Integrated Masters, or in Doctoral Courses, for the development of the doctoral thesis.

Selection methods(1): The evaluation of the applications will focus on the candidate's merit, applying the following selection methods:

  • curriculum evaluation, in the field of formation, with a weighting of 40%
  • a.1. final average of the course grade, with a weighting of 50%;

    a.2. formation area, with a weighting of 50%;

  • consolidated knowledge in the areas of the project, with a weighting of 60%
  • b.1. consolidated knowledge and experience in the areas of physical-motor robotics, 15%;

    b.2. technical-scientific competencies in control strategies and electromiography, 15%;

    b.3. machine learning techniques to control and motion tracking, 20%;

    b.5. motion analysis, 15%;

    b.8. consolidated knowledge in robotics systems, especially collaborative robotics, 15%;

    b.9. participation in applied research projects, 5%;

    b.10. consolidated domain in English, spoken and written, 5%.

    Final classification: the final ordering will be expressed from 0 to 20 values and results from the weighted arithmetic average as follows:

    CF = (a*0,4) + (b*0,6)

    In which a = (a.1*0,5 + a.2*0,5)

    and b = (b.1*0,20 + b.2*0,20 + b.3*0,20 + b.4*0,15 + b.5*0,15 + b.6*0,05 + b.7*0,05)

    The jury may use selection interviews to the five candidates with the best classification.

    In case the jury conducts interviews, the selection methods change, becoming the following:

  • curriculum evaluation, in the field of formation, with a weighting of 25%
  • a.1. final average of the course grade, with a weighting of 50%;

    a.2. formation area, with a weighting of 50%;

  • consolidated knowledge in the areas of the project, with a weighting of 45%
  • b.1. consolidated knowledge in the areas of physical-motor robotics, 20%;

    b.2. technical-scientific competencies in control strategies and elctromiography, 20%;

    b.3. machine learning techniques to control and motion tracking, 20%;

    b.5. motion analysis, 15%;

    b.8. consolidated knowledge in robotics systems, especially collaborative robotics, 15%;

    b.9. participation in applied research projects, 5%;

    b.10. consolidated domain in English, spoken and written, 5%.

  • interview, with a weighting of 30%, with a final classification of 20 values distributed as follows
  • c.1) Motivation, with a weighting of 15%

    c.2) Knowledge about the project area, namely collaborative robotics, with a weighting of 50%

    c.3) Others, with a weighting of 35%.

    Final classification: the final ordering will be expressed from 0 to 20 values and results from the weighted arithmetic average as follows:

    CF = (a*0,25) + (b*0,45) + (c*0,3),

    In which a = (a.1*0,5 + a.2*0,5)

    and b = (b.1*0,20 + b.2*0,20 + b.3*0,20 + b.4*0,15 + b.5*0,15 + b.6*0,05 + b.7*0,05)

    and c = (c.1*0,15 + c.2*0,5 + c.3*0,35)

    Candidates who obtain a valuation lower than 9,50 values in any of the selection methods are considered excluded from the final valuation.

    The jury reserves the right not to award the research grant if candidates with the appropriate profile are not presented to the competition.

    (1) Documents proving the ownership of academic degrees and diplomas, or their respective recognition when they have been issued by foreign higher education institutions, may be dispensed at the application stage, being replaced by the candidate's declaration of honor, with the verification of this condition occurring only in phase of contracting the research grant. This declaration must attest facts that occurred on a date prior to the application. In the application stage, when a declaration of honor is presented in replacement of degree recognition by a Portuguese higher education institution, and the degree recognition process has not yet been completed, the indication of the final grade of the academic degree will not be admitted as evidence for the purposes evaluation of the selection method related to the curricular evaluation component. Thus, in this situation, the jury will assign the minimum classification in this method (10 values), according to the defined scale of values. In situations of divergence between the information contained in the declaration and the documentation submitted at the contract phase, only the information contained in the latter will be considered. If it is verified that the documents proving the ownership of the academic degree and diploma, or the respective recognition under the terms of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August, do not correspond to the classification of the certificate degree, and may, consequently, change the candidate's ranking, the research grant contracting will not be effected.

    Deadline for application and form of submission of applications: The call is open from September 7th to 21st, of 2021.

    Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending an application letter accompanied by the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications or declaration of honor of the candidate and other supporting documents considered relevant.
