A tender is hereby opened for the award of one Research Grant (RG) under the framework of project Augmented Humanity (Mobilizing Project nº46103), Perfil 82 “Bolseiro 1 - Scholarship for M.Sc., for activity A1 - Multi Sensor Perception” of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, under the following conditions:

Financing Source: European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalization (POCI) and the Operational Programme Lisboa 2020 [POCI-01-0247-FEDER-046103 and Lisboa--01-0247-FEDER-046103] .

Work plan: Calibration and Multimodal Sensory Fusion in a Collaborative Manufacturing Cell Environment Main objectives:

  • Development of an automatic calibration solution for image and LiDAR sensors arbitrarily positioned in a collaborative cell.
  • Real-time creation of a three-dimensional representation of the positions and postures of an operator and a collaborative manipulator in the shared space of the cell.
  • The work to be developed falls under tasks A1.T1 - Interactive multi-modal calibration, A1.T2 - Robot assisted calibration and A1.T3 - Real time 3D space monitoring, from which the following subtasks stand out more specifically:
  • Creation of properly synchronized multisensory data bagfiles for further manipulation and treatment.
  • Development of calibration solutions for multiple image sensors with overlapping fields of view.
  • Active calibration of sensors assisted by a robotic manipulator.
  • Development of calibration solutions for multiple LiDAR sensors with occlusion zones.
  • Integrated development of calibration solutions for image sensors and LiDAR.
  • Spatiotemporal fusion of multimodal information for extracting semantic representations of agents in the cell.
  • Extraction of 3D operator and manipulator postures in the collaborative cell.

Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Professors Vítor Manuel Ferreira dos Santos and Filipe Miguel Teixeira Pereira da Silva.

Duration of the grant: The grant duration will be 18 months, starting in January of 2022, and may be renewed up to the maximum limit of approved funding. Under no circumstances shall it exceed the limits defined in nos. 5 and 6 of article 9, of Regulation no. 292/2020, of February 28th, published in Diário da República, no. 61, Series II, of March 26th (Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro).
