The Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA) opens a Call for one (1) research fellowship (Master’s degree) under the pluri-annual funding R&D units (UID/04038/2020), funded by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC).

 Admission requirements

General

The call is open to candidates:

  • holding a Master’s degree in Anthropology;
  • enrolled on a PhD in the area of Anthropology or in non-degree courses on similar áreas (in accordance with Article 6 of the current Regulations for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.).
  • Specific

  • Research experience with qualitative methodologies preferably ethnographic (interviews, participant observation);
  • Research experience with quantitative methodologies (construction of databases);
  • Research experience with participative methodologies (citizen science or social intervention);
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English (oral and written).
  • Desirable

  • Experience in applying for funding programmes;
  • Mastering of Cape Verdean Creole (oral and written).
  • Work Plan

    The selected candidate must carry out the following tasks associated with the exploratory research project "Justice, equality and rights of migrant women: narratives and artistic practices for inclusion", in close collaboration with the project team:

    • Construction of a database with bibliographical references on migration, gender, migrant associativism, citizenship, discrimination and racism;
    • Construction of a database on migrant artistic practices in diaspora contexts (theatre, performance, cinema, literature, music);
    • Contacts with national and international partners aiming at preparing an application for European funding;
    • Assistance in the elaboration of an application for European funding.

    Legislation and applicable regulation: FCT Research Grants Regulation, approved by Regulation No. 950/2019, published in the II Series of the DR of 16 December 2019, by the Research Grant Holder Statute approved by Law No. 40/2004, of 18 August, as amended.

    Workplace and supervision: The workplace is located at CRIA NOVA FCSH and/or other places necessary for the development of the research activities, under the scientific orientation of Sónia Sofia de Sousa Alves Ferreira.

    Duration: The fellowship will last 4 months and is expected to start at January 1st 2023.

    Amount: The fellowship amount corresponds to € 1.144,64, according to FCT’s Table of monthly maintenance allowances. In addition, there is a corresponding voluntary social insurance, if the candidate chooses to assign it, as well as an insurance for personal accidents. The amount will the paid monthly, via bank transfer.

    Selection methods:

    (1) Curriculum Vitae Evaluation (60%). To be considered:

    a. The specific and preferential factors for admission to the competition

    b. Experience in relevant work/areas of research

    (2) Motivation Letter Evaluation (40%). To be considered:

    a. Well-articulated reason for interest in the position

    b. Convincing proposal for why the candidate should be chosen

    Candidates will be classified and ranked, according to the previous criteria, on a scale of 0 to 100.

    In case of a tie, the chair of the selection committee has a casting vote.

    The jury reserves the right not to award a scholarship if no candidate meets the required profile.

    Advertising / notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published through an ordered list and all the candidates will be notified by e-mail.

    Application deadline: The call is open from the 7th to the 18th November 2022.

    Applications shall be submited at https://cria.org.pt/en/jobs-scholarships until the deadline defined in this public notice.

    The application includes the following documents:

    • Motivation letter;
    • Curriculum Vitae;
    • Certificates of academic qualifications, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the marks obtained in all the subjects taken;
    • Proof of enrollment in a doctoral programme or course not conferring an academic degree.

    Although the recipients must be enrolled in a doctoral programme or in a course not conferring an academic degree, at the time of application it is not necessary for the candidate to have made such an enrollment.

    Applications submitted by other means will not be considered. Candidates who formalise their application incorrectly or who do not prove the requirements will be excluded from admission to the competition. In case of doubt, the selection board may require any candidate to produce documents to support their statements.

    * Academic degrees obtained abroad require recognition by a Portuguese Institution according to Decree Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th and Administrative Rule no. 33/2019, of January 25th. The presentation of the recognition is mandatory for the signature of the contract.
