Offer Description

A call is open to allocate 1 (one) research fellowship for BS.c., MS.c. student (BI) within the R&D Project " ATTRACT -project nº101083770 - Digital Innovation Hub for Artificial Intelligence and High-Performance Computing”, co-financed by the Digital Europe Programme and Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência (PRR), taking place at the University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Computer Science Engineering

Objectives:

The work plan includes scientific and technological tasks to research Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

Work plan:

The candidate will participate in the development of the following activities: 1) Support the development, validation, and adoption of new products and services; 2) Promote the dissemination and adoption of AI or HPC-based solutions; 3) Qualify human resources; 4) Stimulate innovation ecosystems.

Applicable legislation and regulations:

Research Fellowship Holder Statute, approved by Law No. 40/2004, of 18 August, in its current wording (amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August); Regulation for Research Studentships and Fellowships of the Foundation for Science and Technology (Regulation No. 950/2019) published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, No. 241, 16 December 2019; Regulation for Research Fellowships of the University of Beira Interior - RBIUBI (Regulation No. 100/2020) published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, n.º 27, 7 February 2020.

Workplace and Scientific supervision:

The work will be developed at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Sebastião Pais.

Fellowship duration and conditions:

The fellowship is open for 18 months and is expected to start on January 2024, not renewable.

The activity will take place on an exclusive dedication basis, according to the RBIUBI.

. Declaration of honor from the candidate stating that he/she meets the conditions for being awarded the scholarship BI according to Article 6 of the RBIUBI.

Skills/Qualifications

- Hold a bachelor’s degree in the scientific area of Informatics Engineering or related and meet the conditions to be enrolled in a cycle of studies leading to a MSc. in Computer Science and Engineering

- Special relevance will be given to candidates with experience in research and development of predictive algorithms. Skills in Natural Language Processing are an advantage.

The proof of registration in a cycle of studies leading to the MSc degree is required for the fellowship contractualization.

Benefits

A monthly maintenance allowance will be granted by the Annex I of the RBIUBI, with the amount of 930,98€ according to the updated values that can be consulted at https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas .

The fellowship holder will have personal accident insurance and can choose to be covered by voluntary social insurance. These values will be added to the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance.

The monthly amount shall be rendered payable via bank transfer to an account held by the grantee.


Eligibility criteria

- Hold a bachelor’s degree in the scientific area of Informatics Engineering or related and meet the conditions to be enrolled in a cycle of studies leading to a MSc. in Computer Science and Engineering

- Special relevance will be given to candidates with experience in research and development of predictive algorithms. Skills in Natural Language Processing are an advantage.

The proof of registration in a cycle of studies leading to the MSc degree is required for the fellowship contractualization.


Selection process

The selection methods will be composed of 2 evaluation phases, according to the following: 1st phase - Curricular evaluation; 2nd phase – Interview, which can be performed via videoconference.

The criteria for curriculum evaluation are as follows: Curriculum vitae/Academic evaluation (45%); Suitability of the candidate’s profile to the project based on the relevant work experience in the tasks described in the work plan (45%); Fluency in oral and written English (10%).

The 3 candidates with the highest scores after the 1st phase will pass to the 2nd phase.

For the final evaluation, each phase has an assessment of 50%.

Complaint and Appeal Procedures:

After communication of the provisional lists of the results in the different phases of the selection process (Admission and Exclusion, Curricular Evaluation and Interview), the candidates have 10 working days to pronounce their disagreement, under the terms of article 121 and the Código do Procedimento Administrativo. If any allegations are presented, the final decision will be issued after the analysis of the statements presented during the prior hearing of interested parties. After the statutory deadline of 10 working days, the proposal for the final classification and ranking of the candidates becomes definitive.
