Offer Description

A Research Fellowship (BI) (Reference REQUIMTE 2024-12) on the project PCIF/SSO/0090/2019 - Firefighting occupational exposure and early effects on the health of operational forces, supported by national funds by FCT / MCTES, is available at REQUIMTE.

Main research field: Pharmaceutical Sciences and related areas

Admission requirements: Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and enrollment in a doctoral program or enrollment/attendance of a non-degree course taught by a higher education institution in conjunction with an R&D unit in Sustainability and Chemistry areas. Experience in green extraction techniques for natural products; cellular models of biological barriers; analytical techniques.

In case the Master degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of October 12th, and all formalities established therein must be complied with at the signature of Fellowship contract.

Working plan: This project aims to contribute with: i) assess the bioaccessibility of pre-selected firefighters’ occupational exposure to health-relevant pollutants released during fires through different routes of exposure (inhalation, topical, ingestion) and the potential cytotoxic effects on firefighters’ health, thought in vitro 3D cell models, ii) data treatment, statistical analysis and firefighters’ health risk assessment and iii) preparation of scientific articles and reports.

Applicable Legislation: Law nº.40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellow Statute) amended and republished by Decreto-Lei n.º 123/2019, 28th August; FCT Regulation for Research Studentships and Fellowships (https://former.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamentos.phtml.pt ).

 

Work Place: The work will be conducted at GRAQ-ISEP, under the supervision of Marta Oliveira and Francisca Rodrigues.

 

Duration: The fellowship will have duration of 6 months.

 

Monthly stipend:

Monthly stipend is €1.259,64 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atu… ). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.

 

Selection criteria: The selection methods will be:

a) Detailed CV (75%):

1. Publications demonstrating knowledge and experience related with the research plan (20%);

2. Relevant publications in the project area. It will be considered not only the impact of the publications but also the quality of the results (20%)

3. Experience in research relevant to the area they are applying (25%).

4. Dissemination of knowledge activities; Participation in research projects relevant to the area to which it is applying; participation as a speaker in scientific meetings (10%).

b) Motivation letter (25%):

Detail the interest and motivation for the research area of the project. Indicate the contacts of 2 researchers that attest the candidate scientific path.

 

In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best positioned candidate, the jury will interview these candidates. In this situation, the value of the interview is 50%.

 

The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.

Publicity and communication of results: The ranking of applications will be published at a visible and public area of REQUIMTE facilities, and all candidates will be informed by email about the result of their application.
