Offer Description

A Research Fellowship (BI) (Reference REQUIMTE 2024-04) at Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde - Tecnologias e Processos Limpos - UIDB/50006/2020, with the financial support of the FCT/ MCTES through national funds, is available at REQUIMTE.

 

Main research field: Materials Chemistry

 

Admission requirements: Master's degree in Chemistry and enrollment in a doctoral program in the area of Chemistry or enrollment/attendance of a non-degree course taught by a higher education institution in conjunction with an R&D unit in the area of Chemistry.

Previous experience in the areas of Materials Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Functional and Smart Textiles, namely in the preparation, functionalization and hybridization of (nano)materials, in particular transition metal oxides, metallic nanoparticles, fabrication of solid-gel polymers, development of formulations, fabrication of functional textiles, processes for the coating of textile and plastic substrates, (nano)materials and textiles characterization techniques and evaluation of the performance of functional textiles and plastics.

In case the Master degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of October 12th, and all formalities established therein must be complied with at the signature of Fellowship contract.

 

Work plan: The work plan involves the following tasks: (1) Preparation of (nano)materials of metal oxides, solid-gel polymers and (nano)composites/hybrids with stimuli-responsive properties; (2) Physicochemical characterization of the prepared (nano)materials, namely by electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy and colorimetry; (3) Development of (nano)materials formulations; (4) Functionalization/coating of textile and plastic substrates and characterization; (5) Evaluation of the stimuli-responsive properties and durability of the smart textiles/plastics.

 

Applicable Legislation: Law nº.40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellow Statute) amended and republished by Decreto-Lei n.º 123/2019, 28th August; FCT Regulation for Research Studentships and Fellowships (https://former.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamentos.phtml.pt ).

 

Work Place: : The work will be conducted at the Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry LAQV-REQUIMTE, Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, under the supervision of Doctor Clara Rodrigues Pereira.

 

Duration: The fellowship will have duration of 6 months, possibly renewable for equal periods, starting on April of 2024.

 

Monthly stipend:

Monthly stipend is €1.199,64 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf ). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.

 

Selection criteria: The selection methods will be:

i) Scientific area of the academic degrees – 20% (rating from 0-20);

ii) Average of the Bachelor and Master final grades or final grade of the Integrated Master – 30% (rating from 0-20);

iii) Relevant experience in the scientific area of research – 30% (0-20 rating);

iv) Scientific publications and communications and their relevance – 20% (0-20 rating).

Interview:

In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best positioned candidate, the jury will interview the best classified candidate and the candidates in this situation. In this situation, the value of the interview is 10%.

 

The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.

Publicity and communication of results: The ranking of applications will be published at a visible and public area of REQUIMTE facilities, and all candidates will be informed by email about the result of their application.
