Offer Description

A Research Fellowship (Reference REQUIMTE 2024-02) at Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde - Tecnologias e Processos Limpos - UIDB/50006/2020, with the financial support of the FCT/ MCTES through national funds, is available at REQUIMTE.

 

Main research field: Biopharmaceutical Sciences

Admission requirements:

• Master’s degree in Biopharmaceutical Sciences and enrollment in a doctoral program or enrollment/attendance of a non-degree course taught by a higher education institution in conjunction with an R&D unit. In case the Master degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of October 12th, and all formalities established therein must be complied with at the signature of Fellowship contract.
• Proved experience on the synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles for biomedical applications.
• Proved experience on the biological evaluation, through in vitro cell culture models, of nanoparticles for biomedical applications.

 

Working plan:

Establishment and modulation of in vitro culture models of relevant oral tissues – oral mucosa, gingiva and alveolar bone.

Cytotoxicity and biocompatibility evaluation of different nanoparticles and biomaterials within the established culture models.

Data treatment, statistical analysis, report preparation, data publication and dissemination.

 

Applicable Legislation: The grant is awarded under the Research Fellowship Holder Statute, approved by Law nº 40/2004, of August 18th, and updated by Law decree DL 123/2019, of August 28th, and the Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (https://former.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamentos.phtml.pt ).

 

Work Place: The work will be conducted at BoneLab - Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Porto, Rua Dr. Manuel Pereira da Silva 4200-393 Porto, under the supervision of Pedro de Sousa Gomes, Full Professor .

 

Duration: The fellowship will have duration of 6 months, possibly renewable for equal periods, starting on March 2024.

 

Monthly stipend:

Monthly stipend is €1.199,64 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf ). Payment will be made by bank transfer monthly. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.

Selection criteria: The selection methods will be:

i) 50% for the scientific area of training and respective classifications converted to the national scale (0 to 20 points);   ii) 50% for research experience in the: a) Establishment and characterization of oral-related cell culture models; b) Experience on the cytotoxicity evaluation of nanoparticles and biomaterials; c) Experience on the use of cellular and molecular biology techniques for the characterization of cell cultures; d) Experience on data reporting and scientific publication.     In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best positioned candidate, the jury will interview these candidates. In this situation, the value of the interview is 50%.

 

The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.

Publicity and communication of results: The ranking of applications will be published at a visible and public area of REQUIMTE facilities, and all candidates will be informed by email about the result of their application.
