A Research Fellowship (BI) (Reference REQUIMTE 2022-45) on the project RFProTex - Innovative Textiles For Radiofrequency Radiation Protection, supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Internationalization (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-039833) is available at REQUIMTE.
Main research field: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Physical Engineering
Admission requirements: Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics or Physical Engineering and enrollment in a doctoral program in the area of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics or Physical Engineering, or enrollment/attendance of a non-degree course taught by a higher education institution.
Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in the areas of Materials Chemistry, Nanotechnology and Functional Textiles, namely in the preparation and functionalization of (nano)materials, in particular transition metal oxides, metallic nanoparticles and (nano)composites of carbon and metal oxides/metals, fabrication of functional textiles and processes for the coating of textile substrates. Previous experience in physicochemical characterization techniques will be valued, namely X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, electrical conductivity measurements and magnetometry.
Working plan: The work plan involves the following tasks: (1) Preparation of (nano)materials of metals/metal oxides and of (nano)composites of carbon and metals/metal oxides with microwave and radio wave attenuation properties; (2) Advanced physicochemical characterization of the prepared (nano)materials and (nano)composites, namely by electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, electrical conductivity and magnetometry; (3) Development of (nano)materials formulations; (4) Functionalization/coating of textile substrates with the prepared (nano)materials and their characterization.
Applicable Legislation: Law nº.40/2004, 18th August (Research Fellow Statute) amended and republished by Decreto-Lei n.º 123/2019, 28th August; FCT Regulation for Research Studentships and Fellowships (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt ).
Work Place: The work will be conducted at the Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry LAQV-REQUIMTE, Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, under the supervision of Doctor Clara Pereira.
Duration: The fellowship will have the duration of 6 months, possibly renewable to the project's final date (30/04/2023), starting in October 2022.
Monthly stipend: Monthly stipend is €1.144,64 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/Tabela_Valores_SMM_LOE_2021.pdf ). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.
Selection criteria:
The candidates will be evaluated by the following selection criteria:
i) Scientific area of the academic degrees – 20% (rating from 0-20);
ii) Average of the Bachelor and Master final grades or final grade of the Integrated Master – 30% (rating from 0-20);
iii) Relevant experience in the scientific area of research – 30% (0-20 rating);
iv) Scientific publications and communications and their relevance – 20% (0-20 rating).
In the event that there are candidates with a classification whose difference is less than or equal to 10% of the classification obtained by the best candidate, the jury will interview the best classified candidate and the candidates in this situation.
The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.
Jury composition:
Doctor Clara Pereira (President),
Professor Doctor Cristina Freire (vowel),
Professor Doctor André Pereira (vowel),
Professor Doctor Baltazar de Castro (substitute vowel)
Publicity and communication of results: The ranking of applications will be published at a visible and public area of REQUIMTE facilities, and all candidates will be informed by email about the result of their application.
Application:
The call for applications is open from 13/09/2022 to 26/09/2022.
The applications are formalized at the electronic address [email protected] , containing in the subject the reference to which the candidate is applying (Reference REQUIMTE 2022-45) and must include the following documents in a digital form (PDF format): Curriculum vitae, Motivation letter and Qualifications Certificate and other supporting documents considered relevant.
