Overview

Are you a highly motivated researcher in the area of development of new analytical methods based on SERS identification of environmental contaminants?

INL is seeking a qualified research fellow to develop, tailor, implement and pre-validate analytical methods for the efficient, detection, quantification and chemical characterization of biotoxins in seawater. The scope of this work will be under the project Atlanticlam Bring Euro-native Clam Species from “Farm to Fork” (PT-Innovation-0097) and the Agenda Pacto Bioeconomia Azul. Thus, this work will be developed in the area of nanotech-based sensors for water quality monitoring whose main responsibility will be to support the Water Quality Research Group at INL under supervision of Dr. Laura Rodriguez-Lorenzo and Dr. Begoña Espiña.

The selected researcher will collaborate with international multidisciplinary teams and is expected to produce several technical and scientific documentation and work planning.

 

Job Duties

The job duties will be the following:

  • Develop innovative SERS sensors for the monitoring and identification of biotins in seawater;
  • Characterize novel SERS substrates in complex matrices.
  • Develop and integrate robust sensors solutions with microfluidic and electronics;
  • Collaborate with international multidisciplinary teams with expertise in SERS sensors, microsystems and microfabrication technology, surface chemistry, microfluidics
  • Produce several technical and scientific documentation as well as day-to-day management of work planning
  • Publish research in high impact journals.

 

Mandatory Qualifications

 

Education

 

  • PhD in Nanotechnology/ Material science/ Chemistry or similar

 

Experience

  • Experience in synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials (i.e. electron microscopies, X-Ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and sample preparation).
  • Experience in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS).
  • Experience in SERS substrate design and fabrication.
  • Experience in Raman characterization of inorganic and organic crystalline materials.
  • Experience in surface and analytical chemistry.

 

Technical Skills

 

  • All the related to the experience stated above.

 

Other Skills

  • Experience in microfluidics (fabrication and modelling) and nanotoxicity will be positively evaluated.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • PhD in Nanotechnology/ Material science/ Chemistry or similar

 

Personal Skills

  • Strong motivation to work both independently and as part of a team in an interdisciplinary environment, with the ability to play close attention to details and to meet deadlines
  • Communication, organizational and teamwork skills.
  • “Hands-on” approach together with a high commitment in respecting working deadlines
  • Highly organized and dynamic

 

Note: Candidates should not have a labour contract with INL during the 12 months before the application.
