Overview

The Nanophononics Research Group carries out research in phononic crystals, acousto-metamaterials, topological bosonics, NEOMs, and nano-scale thermal transport. The Nanophononics Research group is moving from the ICN2 in Spain (www.icn2-p2n.eu/ ) to the INL in Braga, Portugal, in September 2023.

We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the team of the European Union RIA project (call Horizon-EIC Pathfinder 2021) "Nano electro-optomechanical programmable integrated circuits: NEUROPIC”  which aims at novel programmable photonic chip architecture with transformational impact potential in photonics for data centres, autonomous vehicles, quantum information processors, among other application areas.

The main challenge is to identify the dissipation channels and noise transduction mechanisms in the opto-electromechanical devices.

Job Duties

The job duties will be the following:

1.     Characterisation of nanoelectromechanical device-like structures prior to integration in programmable large-scale photonic networks.

2.     Employ the state-of-the-art experimental resources of our group, which include Brillouin Light Scattering, Asynchronous Optical Sampling pump/probe setup, laser Doppler vibrometry and near-field fibre probing optomechanics setup.

3.     Characterize and carry out preliminary COMSOL simulations of the spectral properties of the nonlinear synaptic response of the NEUROPIC electro-optomechanical elements.

4.     Report writing, participation in project meetings, documentation and dissemination of results.

5.     Shared responsibility in equipment maintenance and upgrades, as well as playing a full role in upholding IT Services and safety regulations.
