Overview

The Spintronics Research Group is focused on deploying Spintronics enabled solutions in industrial products and society at large, while keeping scientific excellence and continuously pushing promising technologies from low TRL to high TRL.  To this end, the research group develops its activities along two research lines concerning magnetic field sensors and spin dynamics. 

We are looking for a qualified Research Engineer to join our team working on the design of electronic systems for multiple projects, including European ProjectRadioSpin (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101017098 ), PT2020 project "NeWeSt – New generation of cyberphysical Weighing Systems" (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-069716) and Mobilizador PRODUTECH S&C (http://mobilizadores.produtech.org/pt/produtech_4_s_c ).

Job Duties

The job duties will be the following:

1. Design Analog electronic circuits tailored to the specific features of multiple spintronic devices (magnetic field sensors and spintronic nano-oscillators) aiming at an implementation of a multitude of functions including magnetic field sensing, position sensing, DC->RF modulation and RF->DC demodulation.

2. Production of prototype PCB boards.

3. Production of prototype demonstrators to be deployed in real operating environments.

4. Acquisition of data to validate the prototypes.

5. Establish an interface between the research group and other electrical engineers (at INL and also partner institutions) participating across several projects.

6. Elaborate documentation describing the circuits produced and all tests performed.

7.Participation in the internal collaborative research effort towards achieving the goals of the projects.

8.Elaboration of project documentation, reports and presentations.

Mandatory Qualifications

Education

  • Master or PhD degree in Electronics Engineering or related field.

Experience

  • Experience in the design, production and testing of PCB board level electronic circuits.

Technical Skills

  • Solid Knowledge of Analog Electronics and mixed circuit design.
  • Experience in the design of Data Acquisition Systems.
  • Capacity to integrate microcontrollers and develop appropriate firmware.
  • Capacity to develop simple models of non-CMOS components and integrate them in the simulation of full circuits.
  • Capacity to design electronic systems compliant with EMI and EMC certification standards.

Other Skills

  • Good English (written and spoken) and communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the elaboration of full systems (electronics, casing, user interface, etc…) is highly valued.
  • Experience in the design of ultra-low noise analog front ends is valued.
  • Experience in the design of circuits integrating fast ADCs is valued.
  • Experience in the design of ultra-low power consumption circuits is valued.
  • Experience in the design of communication modules integrating frequency shift keying transduction elements is valued.
  • Experience in the design of cyber-physical systems that incorporate high data rate communication protocols is valued.
  • Experience in the elaboration of electrical models from “black-box” non-standard circuit elements is valued.
  • Experience with common user languages appropriate to implement user interfaces with the electronic systems is valued (.Net, Python, Java, Perl, etc…)

Note: Candidates should not have a labour contract with INL during the 12 months before the application.

    How the Selection Process works

    A. Applications eligibility check

    This stage will be carried out on the basis of the mandatory requirements, education, experience and technical skills defined for the job, as well as the validation of the mandatory documents. Only candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will move forward to the next stage.

    The Selection Committee will evaluate the eligible applications based on their CV and other submitted documents and the suitability for the position. The best ranked candidates will be shortlisted for the interview stage(s).

    C. Interview(s)

    The interview(s) may be done in different formats: video recording, online or onsite.

    The question based interview will evaluate the match between the candidate’s profile and the requirements for the position, including the technical and personal skills. To better support this stage, the candidate may be requested to prepare a short presentation.

    D. Nomination

    The selected candidate will be nominated and formally offered the position, including the disclosure of the contractual conditions.
