The Technology Engineering Research Group is expected to function as a cohesive, multifaceted engineering team that promotes the INL’s core R&D&I skills, in particular in the area of system engineering. It aims to expand the installed capacities for an interdisciplinary approach to transform concepts into high quality nanotechnology-based products and services.

The objective is to have a multidisciplinary team of Engineers from different areas, namely Mechanical, Electric, Physics, and Computer Engineering to work very closely with each other and that will ensure continuity between the knowledge accumulated at INL and the existing knowledge in companies, enabling a faster and more effective data transfer. Each member will bring their contribution to the team to maximise the construction of very complex systems capable of responding to crosscutting needs of the companies with which they will be working. We are looking for a qualified Research Engineer to join our team in designing and building systems and interfaces in several areas of application under the projects PRODUTECH (DIH) and ATTRACK, with the codes 101083487 and 101083770, respectively.


Job Duties

The job duties will be the following:

  • Design and develop automated systems and processes to optimise manufacturing operations.
  • Develop and implement control systems and robotic automation solutions.
  • Design and plan electrical systems, including power, communications, and data.
  • Develop and maintain software for industrial automation systems.
  • Design systems using PLC programs, robotics, and sensor technologies.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems related to industrial automation systems.
  • HMI programming and development.
  • PLC programming according to established standard specifications.
  • Assembly and parameterization of electronic equipment ensuring its correct operation.
  • Research and evaluate new industrial automation technologies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors.
  • Monitor and analyse system performance data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop, document, and maintain all relevant technical documentation.
  • Maintain systems for installation, integration, and operation.
  • Maintain and upgrade control systems.

    Mandatory Qualifications


    • MSc in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Computer Engineering, or related field



    • At least professional experience of 3 years in the industry field.


    Technical Skills

    • Knowledge of PLCs, SCADA systems, and other industrial automation systems
    • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot technical problems.
    • Experience in programming safety PLCs.
    • Experience in programming HMIs.
    • Notions of other programming languages - python, C, C#, etc.
    • Experience in drawing up electrical schematics - Preferably EPLAN.
    • Experience in industrial communication protocols.
    • Familiarity with safety regulations and safety protocols applicable to industrial automation systems


    Other Skills

    • Excellent communication skills in English are required since it’s the working language of INL.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Professional experience of 5 years in the industry field.
