Overview
The Food Quality and Safety Research Group is dedicated to the development of analytical approaches based on the combination of molecular biology (mainly DNA based methodology) and nano and microfabrication technology in order to provide the food industry and control laboratories with reliable analytical tools. Following this objective, the methodology is based on working on very specific analytical needs and on using a modular approach for each of the steps of the analytical process. This approach, help us to evaluate and to choose the best method in each case, to have a sound integrated final product, and at the same time a wide-range of intermediate products that can be used by themselves to solve specific analytical challenges.
We are looking for a qualified Research Engineer with expertise in the Food and other (Bio)-chemistry analytical research area to join our team to work in the Food Quality and Safety field under the project Transparency solutions for transforming the food system – TITAN, with reference number 101060739, under the Horizon Europe Funding Framework.
The candidate will also have strong interactions with other research teams such as 2D materials, Water Quality and Medical Devices among others in the design, fabrication and testing of miniaturized devices for the development of highly-advanced bio-analytical tools under several projects.
The job duties will be the following:
Education
- PhD degree in in Biological Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, Food Science, Biochemistry or related fields.
Experience
- Experience on design, fabrication and testing of miniaturized devices for (bio)-chemical analysis;
- Hands-on experience in microfabrication including CNC milling and laser cutter based fabrication;
- Experience in working on both industrial and scientific projects;
Technical Skills
- Experience on microelectronics technologies for chemical sensor fabrication;
- Hands-on experience on flow systems and microfluidics;
- Background in analytical chemistry and/or molecular biology;
Other Preferred Skills
- Experience in chemometrics is desirable;
- Experience with software development for device control and data collection is desirable;
- Hands-on experience with advance software tools such as LabVEIW, C++ Python is desirable
- Experience with the development of miniaturized devices for DNA based analysis.

How the Selection Process works
A. Applications eligibility check

D. Nomination
