Job opening for 1 Assistant Professor in the area of Education at the

School of Social Sciences and Humanities – NOVA University Lisbon

 

In accordance with article 39 of the University Teacher Career (ECDU), approved by the Decree-law 448/79, 13 November, in its present redaction, the Dean of NOVA FCSH – Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Professor Luís Baptista by delegation of powers, in the terms specified in number 1.2 of the Dispatch 7597/2021, 23 July, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, number 148, August 2, hereby announces the international and documental job opening for one faculty position of Assistant Professor in the subject area of Education, with a relevant curriculum in the field of Teacher Education. Applications are accepted for a period of 30 business days counting from the day after this announcement is published in Diário da República.

This job opening as well as the Committee nomination were authorized by order of Professor João Sàágua, Rector of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, on the 9th January of 2024.

This is an international application procedure and follows the guidelines stated in article 37 and following of the University Teacher Career Statute (ECDU) and in NOVA’s University Regulation for University Teacher Career Applications, Dispatch 3012/2015, February 20, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, number 58, March 24.

 

I — Admission requirements:

1 – According to article 41-A of ECDU the requirement for applying to this procedure is to hold a PhD degree.

2 – The candidates must hold a PhD degree in the areas of Education or related.

3 – The candidates must be proficient in spoken and written Portuguese and English.

II – Submission of applications:

1 – Applications must be sent to the following email address: [email protected] . The email title must contain the reference of this notice.

2 – Applications are formalised, under penalty of exclusion, with the supporting documents listed below. All the required documents must be submitted in PDF file. Short names for files are recommended. Links are not accepted as substitutes for these same documents.

a) Documents proving the fulfilment of the legal requirements demanded in no. 1 and 2, point I;

b) Declaration, under Commitment of Honour, of the mastery in Portuguese and English at a level that allows lecturing in these languages;

c) Application form is available at

d) The Curriculum Vitae of the candidate, indicating published works as well as performed activities regarding all the functions and responsibilities of University Lecturers, as mentioned in articles 4 and 5 of ECDU. The curriculum should, preferably, be organised according to point III of this Public Notice;

e) One copy of each work mentioned in the Curriculum Vitae, considering their contribution to the development and evolution of the area of this call;

f) Scientific and Pedagogical Development Project (30 pages maximum ) that the candidate intends to adopt in the future.

3 – All communications and notifications with the candidate, during this procedure, will be made by email. For this purpose, the candidate must indicate the email address in the application form and sign the attending authorisation.

4 – All applications must include a list of the supporting documents.

5 – The supporting documents for proving the recruitment general requirements in public functions can be replaced by a statement included in the above-mentioned application form.

6 – Applications duly instructed with the above-mentioned documents must be submitted within 30 business days, counting from the day immediately after the publication of this Notice in Diário da República.

7 – The supporting documents of the application must be written in Portuguese or in English.

III — Evaluation criteria:

1 — Scientific component of each candidate’s curriculum vitae (45 %):

1.1    – Publication of books, book chapters, journal articles with peer-review and other relevant scientific production in the area and domain of the call (0 - 20);

1.2 – Coordination and/or participation in research projects and applications evaluated by competent entities, national or international, with relevant impact within the area and domain of this call (0-15);

1.3 – Supervision and co-supervision of theses (Master and Doctoral levels) and other non-taught components of Masters and Doctoral courses in the area and domain of this call (Reports of Pedagogical Traineeship, Project Reports, Final Reports of Doctoral courses) (0-5);

1.4. – Relevant papers presented at scientific conferences and colloquia within the area and domain of this call and other relevant scientific activity, as prizes, grants, membership of scientific committees, research units, editorial boards (0-5);

2 – Pedagogical Component (25 %):

2.1 – Teaching experience in the disciplinary area of this call (0 - 9);

2.2 – Presentation of teaching materials (teaching plans, didactic materials, bibliographies) in the area and domain of this call (0-9);

2.3 – Other relevant pedagogical activities (0-7).

3 – Scientific and pedagogical project (20%):

3.1 – Contribution for the institution’s mission regarding the development of teaching, including its international dimension (0-7);

3.2 – Contribution for the institution’s mission regarding the development of research, including its international dimension (0-7);

3.3 - Contribution for the institution’s mission regarding competitive fundraising (0-6).

4 – Other relevant activities (10 %)

3.1 – Participation in activities of academic extension (0 – 2);

3.2 – Transmission of knowledge to society (0-4);

3.3 – Relevant additional training in relation to the area and domain of the call (0-4).

IV – The Committee has the following composition:

Doctor Ana Isabel Andrade, Full Professor at the University of Aveiro;

Doctor Mariana Gaio Alves, Associate Professor with Aggregation at the Institute of Education from the University of Lisbon;

Doctor António Moreira Teixeira, Associate Professor at the Open University;

Doctor Francisco Peixoto, Associate Professor at the Superior Institute for Applied Psychology of Lisbon;

Doctor Carlos Mafra Ceia, Full Professor at the Nova University of Lisbon;

Doutor Luís Manuel Bernardo, Full Professor at the Nova University of Lisbon.

V - Selection Process:

1 – After the deadline for applications the Committee meets for assessing and ranking the candidates.

2 — Based on the curricula assessment, their suitability to the scientific area of this call, the supporting documents, and their evaluation according to the above-mentioned criteria, the Committee admits the candidates with a final classification of 50 or more and excludes those with a final classification of less than 50.

3— The candidates who are not admitted will be notified in the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure.

4 — The Committee publicises the list of the admitted candidates considering the order of their evaluation as well as a written statement.

5 — The order of the final list of the admitted candidates is determined by the Committee votes, according to the list formerly mentioned, and in accordance with no. 11 a) to f) of article 16 of NOVA University Regulation for University Teacher Career Applications.

 VI – The admitted and excluded candidates are notified by e-mail according to no. 1 c) and no. 2 b) of article 112 of the Code of Administrative Procedure.

 VII – The process of this procedure can be consulted by the candidates on request. The request must be sent to the Division of Human Resources, by an email addressed to the President of the Committee: [email protected] .

VIII – If the Pd.D. degree of the winner candidate has been obtained from a foreign university, its recognition must obey the Decree-Law 66/2018, August 16. The candidates must undertake all formal obligations described in this diploma until the day of the signature of the contract, under penalty of exclusion.
