INIAV, IP (Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária)

The National Institute of Agrarian and Veterinary Research, I.P. (INIAV, I.P.) opens a position for one Bachelor degree (BI-Bachelor), within in the scope of the project TRACE-RICE- Tracing rice and valorizing side streams along Mediterranean blockchain, with Grant nº 1934, (call 2019, section 1 Agrofood) is part of the PRIMA Programme supported under Horizon 2020, the European Union’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovationunder the following criteria:

 

1. Admission requirements:

Degree in Agricultural, Biological Engineering or other related areas. The selected candidate must be enrolled in a Master degree on the date of contracting the scholarship. It is also an essential requirement to master verbal and written in English and Arabic.

 

2. Preferential conditions:

The knowledge of food processing and conservation;

Entrepreneurship and marketing skills and work experience in a business environment;

Computers and statistics skills, especially multivariate analysis in MATLAB;

Immediate availability.

 

3. Work plan:

The main objective of the work plan is to develop research skills by carrying out the tasks foreseen in the project, statistical analysis of results, publication of articles in indexed journals, presentations at conferences and contributing to the deliverables and final report.

In collaboration with other project partners, the main tasks to be developed are:

• Collect the necessary information on rice production and processing in Egypt and generate a data recording application in Arabic;
• Replicate rice classification models using Near Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy;
• Test innovative technologies for drying paddy rice and analyze the milling yield and the physical-chemical properties of the milled grain (color, biometrics, fracture grain, amylose, viscosity profiles and sensory analysis);
• Test parboiling on germinated rice and analyze the physical-chemical properties (color, biometry, grain fracture, amylose, viscosity profiles and sensory analysis) and nutritional properties (resistant starch, eGI-Glycemic Index, aminobutyric acid-GABA, Oryzanol, phytic acid) of the milled grain;
• Contribute to Deliverables related to the replication and exploitation of TRACE-RICE results in Egypt.

5. Duration:

The fellowship, on a full-time basis, will last for 6 months starting on May.

 

6. Value of the monthly fellowship:

The amount of the fellowship corresponds to 930,98€, according to the table of fellowship values awarded directly by FCT, I.P. The fellowship payment frequency is monthly. The Fellow will benefit from personal accident insurance and, if the grantee is not covered by any social protection regime, he/she can ensure the exercise of the right to social security by adhering to the voluntary social insurance regime, under the terms set out in Decree-Law nº 40 /89, of February 1st.

8. Scientific Guidance:

The fellowship holder will be supervised by the researcher Carla Moita Brites.

 

9. Submission of applications:

• Letter of motivation addressed to the President of the Jury, Dr. Carla Moita Brites, requesting the acceptance of the application for the fellowship in question, which must include the full identification of the candidate and the reference to this announcement (ANNOUNCEMENT Nº 01/2024/ BI);

• Detailed Curriculum Vitae (dated and signed);

• Documents proving the elements considered most relevant, namely academic qualifications and professional experience;

• Declarations of honour referring to conditions not verifiable in official documents, namely their total availability to develop the work plan.

10. Selection criteria:

• Academic Qualifications (HA), where the final classification obtained in the Bachelor degree is evaluated.

• Professional Experience (EP), which considers the effective performance of functions in the field of activity for which the call is open with the evaluation of its nature and duration.

• Profile Adequacy (AP), in terms of performing the functions intended for the position to be filled.

• If the jury members consider it necessary, candidates will be subject to an interview (E), in a situation of a tie among candidates.

• Formula:       CF= 0.2HA+0.5EP+0.3AP or

                                    CF= 0.2HA+0.5EP+0.3AP+0.1E

12. Deadline for submitting applications:

The deadline for submitting the application shall be within 10 working days of the publication of this notice.

 

13. Announcement/notification of results

Based on the classification obtained by the candidates, the Jury will order them. The lists of admitted and excluded candidates and the final classification of the call will be sent to the respective e-mails and posted at the INIAV, I.P. service facilities in Oeiras.

After the publication of the results, candidates must be considered automatically notified so that, if they wish to make complaints during the hearing of interested parties, they can do so within 10 working days from the date of publication. At the end of this period, the selected candidate will be notified in writing about the award of the fellowship and the effective start date will be communicated.

In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, it will be communicated to the immediately best ranked candidate and so on.
