NOTICE OF OPENING OF COMPETITION PROCEDURE

FOR THE HIRING OF (1) ONE ASSISTANT INVESTIGATOR

Under the Institutional Support Competition Procedure – Associated Laboratories

1. By order of 7/11/2023, from the President of the Board of Directors of the Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR), member of the CIMAR-LA Associate laboratory Professor Doctor Vítor Manuel de Oliveira e Vasconcelos, it was decided to open a competition for a position as AUXILIARY RESEARCHER within the scope of the Management institution - Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research - financed by FCT, I.P. Foundation for Science and Technology, to carry out scientific research activities in the area of ​​Marine Biotechnology, under an open-ended employment contract under the Labor Code. Hiring for the role of researcher aims to develop studies in accordance with the scientific area, as well as mentoring activities for doctoral students, master's students and research fellows, and other activities included in the CIMAR-LA Strategic Plan – Ref .ª LA/P/0101/2020.

 2. Applicable legislation: Decree-Law No. 63/2019, of May 16, diploma that establishes the Legal Regime of Institutions dedicated to Scientific Research and Development (RJIICD); Decree-Law No. 124/99, of April 20th - Statute of the Scientific Research Career; Law no. 7/2009, of 12 February – Labor Code;

 

3. In accordance with articles 19 and 20 of the ECI and in accordance with the respective appointment order, the competition jury has the following composition:

4. The workplace is located at CIIMAR - Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research – located at the New Cruise Terminal of the Port of Leixões, Av. General Norton de Matos s/n, 4450-208 Matosinhos.

 5. The monthly remuneration to be awarded is equivalent to the first salary position in the Assistant researcher category (without aggregation and qualification) – index 195: €3,427.59 (three thousand four hundred and twenty-seven euros and fifty-nine cents), food, holidays and Christmas allowances appart, on an exclusive basis, for a total of 40 hours per week.

6. Functional content: carry out, on a regular basis, research and development activities and all other scientific and technical activities within the institution's mission and also: a) Participate in the design of research and development programs and their translation into projects ; b) Coordinate and guide the execution of research and development projects; c) Develop training actions within the scope of scientific research and development methodology; d) Monitor the research work carried out by fellows, research interns and research assistants and participate in their training; e) Guide and participate in the institution’s training programs.

 

7. National, foreign and stateless candidates who hold a doctorate degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related areas, hold a scientific curriculum and professional who reveals a profile suitable for the activity to be developed, namely technical-scientific knowledge in the chemistry of marine natural products. If the doctorate was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16-8, and any formalities established therein must be completed by the date of signing the contract.

 

8. The general admission requirements for the competition are those defined in the previous point. The specific admission requirements for the competition are described below. Candidates must have skills and previous experience in:

8.1 Isolation and structural elucidation of natural compounds, especially marine ones, using LC-MS/MS and NMR;

8.2 Experience in activity bioassays as a guide for the isolation of natural compounds;

8.3 Experience in undirected metabolomic analysis;

8.4 Design, submission and implementation of scientific projects;

8.5 Demonstrated ability in preparing and submitting patents;

8.6 Demonstrated ability to perform data analysis, prepare reports and write scientific manuscripts;

8.7 Proven record of organizational responsibilities, including international congresses and evidence of successful leadership and dissemination initiatives and dissemination of results to various audiences.

9. Pursuant to article 10 ECI, the competition consists of the assessment of the candidates' curriculum vitae and scientific work.

9.1 The evaluation of the scientific and curricular path focuses on relevance, quality and timeliness, associated with the scientific area of ​​the competition:

a) Scientific, technological, cultural or artistic production in the last five years considered most relevant to the competition;

b) Applied or practice-based research activities developed in the last five years and considered to have the greatest impact on the competition;

c) Extension and knowledge dissemination activities developed over the last five years, particularly in the context of promoting culture and scientific practices, considered to be of greatest relevance to the competition;

d) Management activities of science, technology and innovation programs, or experience in observing and monitoring the scientific and technological system or higher education, in Portugal or abroad.

10. The five-year period referred to in the previous number may be increased by the jury, at the request of the candidate, when based on suspension of scientific activity for socially protected reasons, namely, for reasons of leave of absence. parenthood, prolonged serious illness, and other legally protected situations of unavailability for work.

11. This competition is open to carry out activities in the areas of NATURAL PRODUCT CHEMISTRY, below designated as the area of ​​preference.

The evaluation criteria are:

The Assessment of the Scientific and Curricular Path (APCC) focuses on the three aspects described below and the final classification is obtained by the following formula: APCC = 0.5 HA + 0.4 PCC + 0.1 MCI

1. Academic Qualifications (HA)

Assessment of the candidate’s training area:

PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Chemistry, HA = 5 points; PhD in related areas, HA = up to 3 values.

2. Assessment of the Scientific and Curricular Path (PCC)

Assessment of the relevance, quality and timeliness of the scientific and curricular path, as well as the ability to carry out research work autonomously within the respective sub-areas. This assessment focuses on the parameters described below and the respective classification is obtained by the following formula: PCC = 0.6 PC + 0.4 AI

2.1 Scientific Production (PC)

Scientific production (PC) over the last five years is evaluated. The classification of scientific production is obtained by: PC = 0.6 PCV + 0.4 PCQ.

Quantitative assessment (PCV): Publications in ISI journals in the preferred area, PCV = up to 5 values; publications in related areas, PCV = up to 3 values; publications in other areas, PCV = 0 values.

Qualitative assessment (PCQ): the candidate must provide copies of up to 5 articles that they consider most relevant, other publications of high scientific merit or patents; PCQ = up to 5 values.

2.2 Research, Extension and Management (AI) Activities

Applied or practice-based research activities, as well as extension and management, developed in the last five years are evaluated. This parameter includes: (i) supervision / co-supervision of master's degrees, doctorates and post-doctorates and (ii) participation in R&D projects, services, and technology transfer and (iii) participation in science management activities and dissemination of knowledge, including the organization of conferences, symposiums and scientific cooperation activities. Activities in the preferred area, AI = up to 5 values; activities in related areas, AI = up to 3 values; activities in other areas, AI = 0 values.

3. Motivation and Capacity for Innovation (MCI)

Assessment of the candidate's motivation and capacity for innovation, based on the motivation letter describing the relevance of the scientific path to the position and personal career objectives: MCI = up to 5 points

 

12. For the assessment of what is mentioned in the previous paragraph, it can be complemented by an interview with all candidates, whenever the jury of the respective competition so decides. The interview, which does not constitute a selection method and is not classified, aims to obtain clarifications or explain elements contained in the candidates' CVs.

 

13. The jury deliberates through a nominal vote based on the adopted and published selection criteria, with abstentions not permitted.

 

15. Jury meetings: the jury can only function when at least two thirds of its members are present. Minutes are drawn up for each jury meeting, which contains a summary of everything that took place there, indicating, in particular, the date and place of the meeting, the members present, the issues considered, the deliberations taken and their reasons, and the form and the result of the respective votes, being signed by all members present at the respective meeting.

16. The absolute merit of candidates is expressed by the Refused or Approved formulas. If there is more than one candidate for the same vacancy, the jury first votes on the absolute merit of each candidate and then classifies them based on relative merit.

17. The result of the competition is contained in a final report, signed by all members of the jury, which, after being duly approved by the institution's top manager, is posted and notified to each of the candidates.

18. Formalization of applications:

The application must include: full name, affiliation, number and date of identity card, Citizen Card, or civil identification number, tax identification number, date and place of birth, marital status, profession, residence and contact address, including email address and telephone number.

18.2 The application is accompanied by documents proving the conditions set out in the notice for admission to this competition, namely:

a) Copy of qualifications certificate or diploma;

b) Detailed curriculum vitae with sections 8 and 9, including information regarding scientific and technological production, applied research activities, extension and knowledge dissemination activities and science, technology and innovation programs.

c) Other documents relevant to the assessment of qualifications in a related scientific area;

d) Copy of the 5 most relevant publications;

e) Letter of motivation;

f) Information regarding scientific and technological production, applied research activities, extension and knowledge dissemination activities and science, technology and innovation programs.

18.3. The application deadline starts on 9/4/2024 and runs for a period of 30 (thirty) working days.

 

19. Candidates who incorrectly formalize their application or who do not meet the general requirements required in this competition are excluded from admission to the competition. The jury has the right to require any candidate, in case of doubt, to present documents proving their statements.

 

20. False statements made by candidates will be punished in accordance with the law.

 

21. The list of admitted and excluded candidates, as well as the final classification list, will be sent to candidates by email with notification delivery receipt. These lists are also posted at CIIMAR facilities, located at the New Cruise Terminal of the Port of Leixões, Av. General Norton de Matos, Matosinhos, and published at www.ciimar.up.pt .

22. Previous Hearing and deadline for the Final Decision: Pursuant to article 121 of the Administrative Procedure Code, after being notified, candidates have 10 working days to comment. Within a maximum period of 90 days from the deadline for submitting applications, the jury's final decisions are made.

 

23. This competition is intended exclusively to fill the indicated vacancy and may be terminated until the approval of the final ordering list of candidates and expiring with the respective occupation of the job on offer.

 

24.
