Offer Description

Associação BIOPOLIS opens an international call for applications for the recruitment of one Junior Researcher to carry out scientific research activities under an uncertain-term employment contract, for an expected period of 12 months, associated with the duration of the project. This call aims to fill one (1) position within the scope of the “Projeto Nzau: Saving the Forest Elephants in northwestern Angola 2026-2028”, funded by “Save the Elephants (STE)” and the “Wildlife Conservation Network’s Elephant Crisis Fund (ECF)”.

The selected researcher will be responsible for developing activities related to the study of the biology and conservation of the forest elephant species (Loxodonta cyclotis).

Skills/Qualifications

National, foreign and stateless candidates may apply, provided they hold a PhD degree in Biology or a related scientific field, and have a scientific and professional curriculum vitae demonstrating a profile suited to the activity to be carried out.

If the PhD degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August, and any formalities established therein must be completed by the date of signature of the employment contract.


Specific Requirements

In addition to the general requirements defined above, the following specific requirements apply:

  • Experience in coordinating and implementing community-based conservation projects in rural contexts, preferably in Angola or in similar socioecological contexts;
  • Experience in team coordination;
  • Experience in producing environmental education content and applying it with communities in rural areas;
  • Scientific publications in the fields of biodiversity, ecology and conservation, with publications on Angola or Central/West Africa being valued;
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in interdisciplinary contexts. The ability to liaise with international collaborators will also be valued;

Availability to spend extended periods in Angola for the coordination and implementation of activities in remote areas
