Are you a Junior Research Fellow with knowledge in the development of hardware and software solutions?

INL is seeking a Junior Research Fellow with knowledge in the field of hardware and software solutions for the lab-on-a-chip system. The selected candidate will be working with a multidisciplinary group within a project that seeks to attain a better knowledge and control of the Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) operation allowing the growth of marine aquaculture in completely controlled conditions and minimizing its impact by an efficient reuse of water, under the OPTIRAS Project, funded by  “OPTIRAS – Optimization of the control of water quality in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems” (EEA.BG.CALL4.023.2020, as part of the the Research Programme of the EEA Framework – the Blue Growth Programme – Portugal) co-funded by the European Economic Area (EEA) Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, through which Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway provide financial support to Member States of the European Union.

Job Duties

This is a collaborative project with the Water Quality Group and the Research Engineer will become part of the System Engineering Group contributing to the development of complete Hardware/Software solution for the lab-on-a-chip system.The job duties are the following:

1.     System architecture definition

2.     Research and development of new liquid sample collection system that include valves and pumps

3.     Research and development of Control Hardware and Software

4.     System integration and Test

5.     Field installation and trial tests.

MandatoryQualifications

Education

  • Master in Electrical, Electronics, Physics Engineering or any related field

Experience and Technical Skills

  • Experience in hardware design with both analog and digital components;

  • Knowledge in circuit board design (PCB) targeting low noise and power management applications (Altium or KiCad), and product life-cycle including EMC and handover to production (BOM);

  • Skills in low-level software (C/C++) and the ability to do initial board bring up;

  • Knowledge in control programming including the use of valves and pumps for fluidics and microfluidics applications;
  • Past experience in working with international and cross-functional teams;

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with designs including wireless communications (ISM band radios, Bluetooth, LoraWan, or NB-IoT)

  • Embedded Linux experience would be highly regarded
  • Building test setups, including computer interfacing (e.g. Labview, Matlab or Python) and data acquisition (Labview or Python)

  • “Hands-on” approach together with a high commitment in respecting working deadlines;
  • Problem Solving ability;

  • Ability to work independently and as team player;
  • Good communication skills.
