Overview
The Nanomedicine Research Group is dedicated to the development of precise and personalised nanomedicines involving imaging and therapy functionalities.
We are looking for a qualified Junior Research Fellow to join our team in the development (e.g., synthesis, characterisation) of biocompatible and colloidally stable encapsulation systems under the project Yottocann.
Job Duties
The job duties will be the following:
- Developing encapsulation systems for food applications;
- Synthesising and characterisation of active-loaded formulations;
- Assessing physicochemical and biological parameters, such as stability under real-mimicking conditions, efficacy (in vitro digestion) and safety (cell-based in vitro models).
Mandatory Qualifications
Education
- MSc Degree in Chemistry, Biophysics, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Applied Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Nanotechnology or other related fields.
Experience
- Use of biocompatible natural ingredients for the development of encapsulation systems using high/low-energy techniques (i.e., high-intensity ultrasounds, emulsification methodologies, spray-drier, etc.);
- Development of food/pharma formulations following safe-by-design protocols;
- Lipid-based encapsulating (nano)systems;
- Physical and chemical characterisation techniques of encapsulation systems and final formulations;
- Cell culture and related techniques.
Technical Skills
- Development, production and characterisation of encapsulation (nano)systems, such as solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers, emulsions and nanoemulsions using food/pharma-grade and natural materials for encapsulation of bioactive compounds;
- Hands-on high-energy methodologies for the production of encapsulation (nano)systems, such as ultrasounds techniques;
- Nano-characterisation techniques, such as DLS, XRD, UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, XPS, NMR;
- Cell culture for the assessment of cytotoxicity (cell viability and oxidative stress) and barrier and permeability studies;
- Analytical techniques (HPLC, fluorescence spectroscopy) and confocal laser microscopy.
