  • By order dated 24/01/2024 of the Rector of the University of Évora, it was deliberated to open an international selection contest for the position of doctor for the exercise of scientific research activities in the scientific area of Biological Sciences - specialization in Management and Conservation of Fish Resources for MARE – Marine and Environmental Science Centre/University of Évora, under a fixed term public service work contract regime with the duration of three years, possibly renewable for periods of one year up to a maximum duration of six years, pursuant to Decree-Law No. 57/2016, of 29 August and the Regulation for the Evaluation of the Performance of Doctoral Researchers at the University of Évora, published by Order No. 7123/2019 (2nd series), of August within the scope of the scientific project DiadSea - Transnational cooperation to improve the management and conservation of diadromous fish at sea (EAPA_0011/2022), ), and other research projects other projects which may be approved in MARE.
  •  

    The selected candidate may have to ensure 4 hours of weekly classes in curricular units that may be distributed to them.

     

  • Applicable legislation: Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 29th August, which approves the doctor hiring regime destined to stimulate scientific and technological employment in all areas of knowledge (RJEC). General Public Service Labour Law (LTFP), approved in annex to Law no. 35/2014 of 20 June, under its current wording.
  •  

  • Pursuant to article 16 of Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 29th August, this contest procedure shall be exempt from authorization by the Government members in charge of the areas of Finances and Public Administration, namely that mentioned in nº 3 of article 7 of the LTFP; from obtaining a prior favourable opinion from the Government members in charge of the areas of Finances and Public Administration, mentioned in nº 5 of article 30 of the LTFP, and the recruitment process for workers in a requalification position, mentioned in article 265 of the LTFP.
  •

  • The place of work is situated in University of Évora - MARE – Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre.
  •  

  • The monthly remuneration to be paid is 2 294,95€, corresponding to level 33 of the Single Salary Table, updated by Order no 26-B/2023, April 18th .
  •  

  • Any national, foreign and stateless candidates who hold a doctorate degree in Biology and a scientific and professional curriculum whose profile is suited with the conditions below and for the activity to be performed can submit their applications:
    • At least 3 years of post-doctoral experience in R&D and applied research and on the management and conservation of migratory fish species; 
    • Experience in data analyses (software "R");
    • Experience in species distribution models applied to fishes in a climate change context;
    • Experience with publication of databases;
    • Experience in diadromous species identification;
    • Experience on the monitoring and management of fish populations exploited for commercial purposes;
    • Experience in sampling fish assemblages using standardized methods, such as electric fishing, gill nets and traps 
    • Experience on the development and implementation of public outreach, science dissemination and environmental education actions, related with ichthyology and management and conservation of fish species; 
    • At least 3 papers in Q1 (Scimago, quartile indexed at the publication date) Web of Science indexed international scientific journals of the specialty in the last five years; 
    • Experience in projects directed to the management and conservation of diadromous species;
    • Experience on the lecture of Curricular Units in BSc. And MSc. Courses.
  •  

     

    If the PhD has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, the candidates are admitted to the procedure, according to paragraph e) of paragraph 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law nº 60/2018, of 3th August and the registration/recognition of the degree in Portugal to be effected after the end of the tender, under the terms provided for in Decree-Law nº 66/2018, of 16th August, and is only necessary in the act of contracting.

     

  • General contest admission requirements are those specified in article 17 of the LTFP and special requirements are those specified in the previous section.
  •  

  • Pursuant to article 5 of the RJEC, selection is to be made based on the evaluation of the scientific and curricular career of the candidates.
  •  

  • The evaluation of the scientific and curricular career focuses on relevance, quality and up-todateness:
  • The most relevant scientific production considered by the candidate;
  • The applied research activities carried out and considered of major impact by the candidate;
  • The extension and knowledge dissemination activities developed, namely in the context of the scientific practices, considered of more relevance by the candidate and linked to the area of the application.
  • Other relevant activities;
  • Facultative public presentation of the admitted candidates, by jury determination.
  •  

    11. In the application of the criteria referred, the following parameters and weight factors are evaluated:

    Criterion a) with a 50% weight factor, comprising: a1) Publications in scientific journals, considering the quality of publications, being assessed the intrinsic quality of the respective scientific content; a2) Book chapters with ISBN;

    a3) Research experience, considering participation in national and international research

    projects, considering the profile of the scientific area of the contest;

    Criterion b) with a weight factor of 20%, comprising applied or practice-based research activities developed;

    Criterion c) Extension and knowledge dissemination activities developed with a weight factor of 20%: c1) Experience in transference of knowledge and technology; c2) Participation in scientific conferences and seminars;

    Criterion d) Other relevant activities, with a weight factor of 10%:  d1) Member of societies and international or national expert working groups; d2) Revision of scientific manuscripts and participation as jury in scientific awards;

    Criterion e) Facultative public presentation of the admitted candidates, by jury determination, with a qualitative ponderation in the global evaluation.

     

    In all cases, relevance will be given to indicators and activities in the scientific area of Biological Sciences - specialization in Management and Conservation of Fish Resources.

     

  • The public presentation referred in the previous point might be requested by the jury, when the evaluation in case the evaluation of the scientific and curricular career of the candidates by the evaluation panel is not clear. This audition comprises a presentation session and public discussion by the candidates of the results of their research.
  •  

     

  • The system of final classification is expressed on a scale of 0 to 100.
  •  

  • The panel shall deliberate by means of roll call vote justified under the adopted and disclosed selection criteria, with no abstentions allowed.
  •  

  • Minutes of panel meetings shall be elaborated and will include a summary of all occurrences, as well as of all votes cast by the members and their respective reasoning, and shall be provided to candidates whenever requested.
  •  

  • After concluding the application of the selection criteria, the panel will prepare an ordered list of approved candidates and their respective classification.
  •  

  • The panel’s final decision will be validated by the head of the institution, who is also in charge of deciding about the contracting.
  •  

  • Formalization of candidatures:
  • Candidatures are formalized by way of an official request form, available at the e-mail address of the Administrative Services of the University of Évora, http://www.sadm.uevora.pt , sent to the President of the Jury, which includes the identification of this announcement (Refª Inv Proj. DiadSea_MARE), full name, parents’ names, ID card or Citizen Card number and date or civil identification number, taxpayer ID number, date and place of birth, marital status, occupation, residence and contact address, including email address and telephone.

  • The application for admission to the contest is accompanied by the following documents:
  • a) Documents proving the fulfilment of the conditions set out in points 7 and 8 for admission to this contest, namely, certificate of the degrees and titles required; b) PhD thesis;

    c) Curriculum Vitae of the candidate, indicating the outputs and works carried out and published, as well as the scientific activities developed. The curriculum vitae must be prepared taking into account the evaluation parameters referred to in points 10 and 11;d) Other documents.

     

    18.3. Candidates should submit their application request and supporting documentation, preferably in digital form, in PDF format, to the email [email protected] , in person at the Universidade de Évora – Divisão de Recursos Humanos (DRH), Serviços Administrativos, Largo da Sr.ª da Natividade, Apartado 94, 7002-554 Évora, Portugal, during working hours, or by mail to the same address. When submitted by mail, applications must be sent by registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt sent until the last day of application deadline, which is hereby set as 30 working days after the publication of this Announcement.

     

  • All candidates who formalize their applications in an improper way or fail to prove the requirements imposed by this contest are excluded from admission. In case of doubt, the panel is entitled to request any candidate to present further documentation supporting their statements.
  •  

  • False statements provided by the candidates will be punished by law.
  •  

  • A list of the candidates admitted and excluded as well as the final classification list is publicized on the webpage http://www.sadm.uevora.pt , and the candidates are notified by email with receipt of delivery.
  •  

  • Preliminary Hearing and Final Decision Deadline: Pursuant to article 121 of the Administrative Procedure Code, after notification, all candidates have 10 working days to respond. The panel’s final decisions are pronounced within a period of 90 days, counted from the deadline for presentation of applications.
  •  

  • This contest is exclusively destined to fill this specific vacancy and can be terminated at any time until approval of the final candidate list, expiring with the respective occupation of the vacancy.
  •
