The Católica Biomedical Research Centre (CBR) is seeking exceptional scientists to fill a Group Leader and Tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position at our biomedical research institute.

CBR was created in 2022 with the ambition to develop a collaborative, multidisciplinary hypothesis-driven basic research towards human health.

Duration: 5 years, full-time

What we are looking for

We are looking for highly motivated and qualified researchers in Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Data Science, Engineering, and related fields, with the following attributes:

- A demonstrated ability to generate novel ideas, tools, methodologies, and knowledge, coupled with a track record of publishing high-quality, cutting-edge research;

- Clear demonstration of interdisciplinary collaboration, able to bridge multiple fields in medical and biological sciences;

- International research experience and integration within relevant international scientific networks;

- Clear indicators of research independence and leadership, commensurate with the seniority level, i.e. main/corresponding authorship and secured research funding;

- A track record of valuable contributions to scientific community and research culture;

- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, including mentoring and interaction with peers.

What we offer

CBR offers an initial 5-year appointment as a Group Leader at CBR and as an Assistant/Associate Professor at Católica Medical School, with up to 20% of teaching duties. This appointment can lead to the tenured professor position upon positive evaluation.

We provide a collaborative environment and complete scientific independence, particularly in publishing, scientific reporting, selecting and supervising of team members, applying for funding, and using it in line with the scientific objectives.

Successful applicants will have a dedicated laboratory space, access to modern research facilities and be supported by a start-up package. In addition to opportunities for career development, transversal skills training, and mentoring scheme, the selected candidate will integrate the CBR Researchers’ Council and CBR Faculty Board. They will join a dynamic team of researchers dedicated to making meaningful contributions to human health and well-being.

About CBR

The Catolica Biomedical Research Center (CBR) is a research unit of the Católica Medical School  of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. CBR empowers talented investigators to combine innovative technologies that bridge medicine, data science, biology and engineering. CBR currently comprises about 60 researchers and is aiming to grow towards 150-200 researchers in next 5 years. Current CBR investigators have wide international-level research experience and are well integrated in transnational scientific networks, having secured 5 ERC grants, 2 la Caixa Health research grants, 1 Leducq Foundation International Networks of Excellence, among others.

The Católica Medical School and CBR partnered with Hospital da Luz, the largest private healthcare provider in Portugal, to establish the first non-governmental Clinical Academic Center (CAC), known as Católica Luz (CAC-CL). The Católica Luz triad cultivates an environment of open collaboration, situated within the intersection of medical education, research, and clinical practice.

CBR is currently hosted at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência campus in Oeiras and have access to highly specialised and state-of-the-art infrastructure, such as advanced light and electron microscopy, flow cytometry, genomics, and animal facilities.
