The Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP) welcomes
applications for a research studentship for the project “International Cooperation in Education in
Emergencies: A Case Study in Mozambique”, financed by Camões, I.P, and underway at CIIE/FPCEUP.
The overall objective of this project is to analyse the role of international cooperation in the design and
implementation of emergency education responses in Mozambique.
1. Research field / Scientific area: Educational Sciences
2. Admission requirements:
To apply for the research studentship, applicants must comply with the following requirements, for which
documentary evidence must be provided:
a) Hold a master’s degree in Educational Sciences.
b) To be a student enrolled in a PhD in Educational Sciences or in related areas, a requirement to be
proven at the time of the contract, or to be enrolled in a non‐academic degree course integrated in
the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation
with one or more R&D units, a requirement to be dully proven at the time of signing the contract.
c) Have experience in participating in research and/or intervention processes and projects in
Education.
d) Possess good knowledge and research experience in qualitative methodologies, namely interviews,
participant observation, focus groups and content analysis.
If the candidate holds a master’s degree awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognised by
a Portuguese higher education institution, in accordance with the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018
of 16 August, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education
diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions and Article 4 (2) (e) of Decree-Law no. 60/2018 of 3
August, and any formalities established therein be fulfilled up to the date of the contracting act.
3. Preferred requirements:
a) Experience of participation in processes and projects of research and/or intervention in Education
in the context of cooperation for development.
b) Attendance of courses and/or training actions in the area of Education, Cooperation and/or
Development (including curricular units of degree courses).
c) Communications and publications in areas relevant to the project’s objective.
d) Availability to start the research studentship as of July 2022 (to be mentioned in the motivation
letter).
e) Experience in organising knowledge dissemination events, including conferences and community
engagement activities.
4. Work plan:
Under the supervision of the coordinators, the grant holder will collaborate fully in the project activities,
namely:
a) Organise the literature review on education in international cooperation contexts.
b) Participating in the organisation and systematisation of data collection, including document
analysis, interviews and focus groups.
c) To take part in the organisation of fieldwork, with possible travel to Mozambique.
d) To take part in the organisation of an International Seminar for the public presentation of the
results in the contexts involved (at the FPCEUP and in collaboration with the participants in
Mozambique).
e) To take part in dissemination initiatives to enhance the results and learning achieved.
f) To draft a final report of all the activities developed during the period of the research studentship.
5. Applicable law:
Portuguese Law no. 40/2004, dated August 18 (Scientific Research Fellow Statute) in its current wording;
Regulation 184/2021 of 3 March, as amended by Resolution No. 1301/2021, published in D.R., 2nd series,
on 22 December; FCT’s Regulation for Research Studentships and Fellowships, approved by the
Regulation no. 950/2019, dated November 29; University of Porto Regulation for Research Fellowships
approved by Regulation no. 184/2021; Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th (Legal regime for
recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education
institutions); and the Code of Administrative Procedure (CPA), approved by Decree-Law No. 4/2015, of
January 7.
6. Workplace:
The work will be carried out at the CIIE/FPCEUP facilities and at other places where the project will be
implemented under the guidance of the project’s coordination team (Alexandra Sá Costa, Henrique Vaz,
Júlio Santos and Teresa Medina), under the supervision of Júlio Santos and Alexandra Sá Costa.
7. Duration:
The studentship has the duration of 10 months, on an exclusive basis, that might be renewed for equal or
different time periods, according to institutional needs and financial availability.
8. Monthly maintenance allowance amount:
The monthly stipend is 1144,64€, according to the table of grant amounts for positions held in Portugal
(https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en ). Payment will be made by FPCEUP through bank
transfer. In addition, the studentship holder will be covered by a personal accident insurance and may also
be reimbursed for the amount corresponding to the Voluntary Social Security, in case of adherence to this
scheme.
9. Evaluation methods:
Evaluation methods are: curricular evaluation (CE) and, if the panel deems it necessary, an interview (I),
partially in English, to the highest ranked candidates (max. of three) in curricular evaluation. The interview
(I), if necessary, will have a weight of 30% to the final score.
In case an interview is held, the final score (FS) is calculated according to the formula CE * 0,7 + I * 0,3,
expressed on a scale of 0 to 100 points. If there is no interview, the final score will be the same as the one
obtained at CE.
The evaluation criteria and weighing factors at CE are as follows:
a) Suitability of the curriculum to the project theme: research and/or intervention in the field of
educational sciences, education and cooperation for development and/or education in emergency
situations; complementary training; participation in research or intervention projects; work
experience in NGDOs in the field of education, cooperation and development and/or education in
emergency situations; communications and publications in those fields; experience in the
organising of knowledge dissemination events; attendance of courses and/or training actions in
the field of education, cooperation and/or development (including curricular units of degree
conferring courses) (40 points);
b) Knowledge and experience in qualitative research methods, with special emphasis on interviews,
focus groups and content analysis (40 points)
c) Motivation to develop research/intervention work within the scope of the project issues, explained
in the motivation letter (20 points).
On the basis of the final ranking list, a reserve list will be set up, which will be used until January 2023 for the
possible hiring of new grant recipients under this project. In the event that none of the candidates demonstrates to
have the profile indicated for the execution of the work plan, the panel reserves the right not to award the studentship.

11. Disclosure of the results:
Evaluation results will be communicated by email to the address provided by the candidates in the
Curriculum vitae/ letter of motivation.
In compliance with the provisions of the Article 121 of the Code of Administrative Procedure (“Código do
Procedimento Administrativo”), after being notified, candidates have 10 working days to submit a formal
rebuttal.
The final decision must be taken within a maximum period of 60 working days after the conclusion of the
preliminary hearing of interested parties or of the public consultation.
