INESC MICROSISTEMAS E NANOTECNOLOGIAS - Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores para os Microsistemas e as Nanotecnologias, a private, non-profit association, with the status of public interest institution is looking for an engineer with hands-on experience in instrumentation for surface defect inspection.
This opening of position corresponds to a fixed-term employment contract, to be developed within the scope of the project “Agenda Mobilizadora GreenAuto”, funded through the Portuguese Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência (PRR) and the Europen Funds “Next GennerationEU” under the following conditions:
DURATION
12 months, starting in May 2024
- Renewable, subject to suitable performance within the period of the project, not exceeding the maximum period set for this type of contract.
LEGISLATION
A fixed term contract will be celebrated according to the Portuguese Labour Code in force - Lei n.º 7/2009 (vg. art. 140º, n. 1 and n. 2, al. g), art. 148º, n. 1 and art. 149º, n. 2, 3 and 4)
MONTLY AMOUNT
The Employee is entitled, prior to any deductions or withholdings, to a monthly pay of 1.896,50€ (corresponding to N14 level), working in an exclusive dedication basis and schedule exemption.
The monthly pay, vacation and Christmas shall be paid by bank transfer.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the work are to support the project activities at INESC-MN related with surface scanner using magnetic sensors and Eddy current probes, for evaluation of defects in surfaces provided by partners within the project.
The candidate responsibilities include:
- Using the existing surface scanner for surface evaluation of several pieces provided by the project partners.
- Selection of the magnetic sensors and integration in PCB with the excitation coils
- Prepare detailed reports with the results of the measurements.
SCIENTIFIC SUPERVISION
The work will be supervised by Prof. Susana Cardoso de Freitas.
The employee will be integrated in the INESC-MN team.
ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS - Required education Level and research experience
At the date of the application the candidates should have a master degree in Physics Engineering, Electronics, mechanical Engineering or related areas. The candidates are expected to have at least 1 year experience in techniques for sensor integration, including at least 2 of the following skills:
- Experience in electronic interfaces with magnetic sensor chips
- Proven Hands-on experience in instrumentation for scanners and graphical plots of the data obtained
- Basic experience in packaging techniques (e.g., wire bonding, chip dicing, PCB design, pin soldering)
- Experience in prototype and product development for NDT applications.
Candidates without proven hands-on experience in electronic device testing and instrumentation will be excluded. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in magnetic-based sensors and/or eddy current generation coil design. Candidates with prior experience in quality control in industrial facilities are also favored.
EVALUATION CRITERIA AND AVALIATION COMMITEE
The selection will be based on the following criteria:
i) 50%: demonstrated knowledge and experience in electronic platforms for magnetic sensors readout.
ii) 40%: academic performance
iii) 10%: motivation letter
The jury may also decide not to assign the position, if none of candidates meets the required conditions

COMPLAIN AND APPEAL DEADLINES AND PROCEDURES
The jury has the faculty not to select a candidate who does not prove the requirements mentioned in required education Level and research experience
The admitted and excluded candidates will be notified by email of the final ranking list, including the copy of the Preliminary Report of the jury.
Prior Hearing and Deadline for Final Decision: After being notified, candidates have 10 working days to submit, if applicable, a formal rebuttal.
After that period, the jury notifies the candidates of the Final Report.
Excluded applicants may complain about the jury's final report for 15 working days after notification or appeal the jury's decision to the INESC MN Board of Directors for 30 working days after notification.
According to the Portuguese Law, a disabled candidate has a preference when in equal classification, which prevails over any other legal preference. Candidates must declare their respective degree of disability, the type of disability and the means of communication / expression to be used in the selection process, under the law.
