Offer Description

The Research Group CIETI – Centro de Inovação em Engenharia e Tecnologia Industrial of the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) has a call for tenders open for one Research Grant (BI) for a graduate student in Chemical Engineering, or similar, with reference FCT_CIETI_NEPA_BI_2024, financed by FCT/MCTES - Foundation for Science and Technology I.P. through national funds, within the scope of the Base Multi-Year Financing of the Unit UIDB/04730/2020, under the following conditions:

 

1. SCIENTIFIC AREA

Chemical Engineering

2.ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar. Proficiency in Portuguese and English. Candidates must be enrolled in a master's study plan.

Preference factors:

Research experience in the field of thermochemical processes;

Autonomy and ability to work in a team;

Sense of responsibility and capacity for initiative.

 

3. DURATION

The scholarship will last for 6 months, starting in april 2024, and will eventually be renewed according to the objectives of the Unit and its budget, up to the limit established in the legislation, taking place on an exclusive basis, according to the regulation of advanced training of human resources of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and of Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP).

 

4.OBJECT OF ACTIVITY / WORK PLAN

The CIETI R&D Unit – Center for Innovation in Engineering and Industrial Technology (UIDB/04730/2020) develops its activities in the thematic area of ​​Sustainable Energy Systems, Circular Economy, and Technologies for the Environment, seeking to contribute to the achievement of some of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and for some of the 14 Grand Challenges for Engineering in the 21st Century, which intersect with its thematic area. Additionally, CIETI promotes an advanced training policy that integrates teaching/research and in which Master's students are associated with its research and development projects, which meets the SDG4 “Quality Education”.

CIETI has a set of research lines, which include the study of waste recovery by thermochemical processes.

This grant is intended to carry out experimental research activities in the area of waste pyrolysis and to disseminate results.

The work plan includes the following activities:

- Study of thermochemical processes with special focus on Pyrolysis;

- Preparation and characterization of the raw material;

- Experimental work in the area of ​​pyrolysis, using a fixed bed reactor, where the effects of operating conditions on the yields and properties of the different phases produced (solid, liquid and gas) will be evaluated.

- Characterization of the solid, liquid, and gaseous phases produced.

 

5.APPLICABLE LEGISLATION AND REGULATIONS

Statute of the Research Grantee, approved by Law No. 40/2004, of August 18; Regulation of Research Scholarships of the Foundation for Science and Technology, approved by Regulation No. 950/2019, published in the 2nd series- Part C, of the Diário da República, of December 16, 2019; Regulation of ISEP Research Scholarships, Law No. 66/2018, published in Diário da República n.º 157/2018 series I of August 16, approving the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions and Law No. 60/2018, of August 3, which proceeds to simplify administrative procedures necessary for the pursuit of research and development activities, all in their current wording.

 

6. SCIENTIFIC GUIDANCE AND WORKPLACE

The work will be developed in the facilities of CIETI – Centro de Inovação em Engenharia e Tecnologia Industrial do Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP), under the Scientific Supervision of Professor Albina Maria de Sá Ribeiro.

 

7. MONTHLY ALLOWANCE

Monthly value of the grant: €990,98 paid by bank transfer (according to FCT chart: http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.pt ) supported through PAD nº C63227.

 

8. METHODS OF SELECTION AND COMPOSITION OF THE JUrY

The evaluation of candidates will be based on: curricular evaluation (50%) and interview (50%), which will take into account the academic background, the adequacy between the candidate's profile and the objectives of the scholarship, the relevant motivation for the proposed activities, in accordance with the admission requirements set out in this public notice.

After evaluating the candidates according to the components in question, the candidates will be ranked in descending order of scores. In case of a tie, the candidates will be assessed based on the interview score. If the tie remains, the tie-breaking factor will be the classification obtained in the higher course.  If the tie remains, the jury will vote, with the President of the jury having the final decision, in case of a new tie. The Jury reserves the right not to select any candidate if none of them has the appropriate profile for the exercise of the functions or does not obtain a final grade equal to or greater than 10 values.

 

The jury responsible for the selection process shall consist of:

Professor  Rosa Maria Barbosa Rodrigues Pilão (President);

Professor Gilberto António Pinto (Delegate);

Professor Albina Maria de Sá Ribeiro (Delegate),

and as a substitute member Professor Maria Paula Moreira de Carvalho Amorim Neto Pimenta (Substitute Delegate).

 

9. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS

Applications must be formalized by e-mail sent to [email protected] . The subject of the email must include the grant reference FCT_CIETI_NEPA_BI_2024. The application must be accompanied by the following documents:

-         Curriculum Vitae;

-         Qualifications certificate / Document proving the holder of the academic degree and diploma, the respective recognition when it has been awarded by foreign higher education institutions or a document proving that recognition has been requested;

-         Document proving enrollment in a master's study plan;

-         Motivation letter referring to the field of interest.

 

If the qualification has been granted by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Law No. 66/2018 August 16, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the time of contracting.

 

10. DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS

The submission of application runs between March 8th and 21st, 2024.

 

11. NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS

The results of the evaluation will be sent by email to the email address indicated in the application process.

 

12 COMPLAINT AND APPEAL PROCEDURES

If the result is unfavourable, the candidates have 10 working days after the publication of the results of the evaluation of the candidacies to, if they so wish, make their opinion known in a prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms set forth in the Administrative Procedure Code.

 

The final decision referred to in the previous numbers may be appealed to the President of ISEP, within 15 working days after the respective notification.

 

13. SELECTION RESERVATION

ISEP reserves the right to use unselected candidates, in order of rank, for the hiring of scholarship applicants within the same project due to the withdrawal of the candidate initially selected.
