Offer Description

Work Plan:

The fellow will participate in the following tasks: 1) analytical characterisation of historical tiles (glaze and pigments) using the techniques mentioned above; 2) study and reconstruction of historical glaze and pigment recipes according to the results obtained in 1); organisation and participation in dissemination activities for different audiences; 4) supervision of research projects within the ChromAz project.

Workplace:

The work will be developed at VICARTE (Research Unit “Glass and Ceramics for the Arts”) at NOVA School of Science and Technology, under the supervision of Dr Susana Xavier Coentro and co-supervision of Professor Dr Márcia Gomes Vilarigues, being the hiring entity NOVA.id.FCT – Associação para a Inovação e Desenvolvimento da FCT.

Fellowship duration:

The fellowship is valid for five months and is expected to start on April 1st, 2024.

Skills/Qualifications
  • Recipients profile/category:
  • Mandatory requirements:

  • Master in Conservation and Restoration or related fields within Heritage Science.
  • Research experience in the field of historical ceramic materials;
  • Experience in the characterisation of glass materials through SEM-EDX, XRF, µ-Raman, XRD and optical microscopy;
  • Oral and written knowledge of the English language.
  • The candidate must be enrolled in a PhD in a scientific area compatible with the work plan. The documents proving this situation must be presented, at the latest, until the stage of contracting the scholarship, and before that, they can be replaced by a declaration of honour.
  • Preferred factors:

  • Experience in production techniques of glazed ceramic materials;
  • A track record of publications in fields of interest to the project, historical tiles in particular;
  • Capacity and work experience in multidisciplinary teams.

    Benefits

    Monthly maintenance allowance amount:

    The monthly maintenance allowance is € 1 259,64, according to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT, I.P., in Portugal. The payment method is by bank transfer.


    Eligibility criteria

    Selection criteria:

    a) Research experience in the field, including the preferential factors i) to iii): 70% (0 to 7 values);

    b) Interview: 30% (0 to 3 values).

    Only applicants who fulfil the admission requirements in Section 2 will be selected for an interview.

    Form of advertising/notification of results:

    The evaluation results proposed by the jury will be notified up to 90 days after the deadline for submitting applications via email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list.

    After notification, candidates will have ten working days to comment on the draft decision (prior to the hearing of interested parties under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be made after the expiration of the prior hearing period, and all candidates will be notified again by e-mail. Of this final decision, the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification) or a hierarchical appeal within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT's Board through the address [email protected] .
