University of Coimbra opens a call for 2 (two) research fellowship, in the framework of the IT0225 project “TypoMetaLing - Effect of linguistic experience on metacognition in language tasks and transfer to non-linguistic behaviour” (reference: Grant Agreement n.º101041475 ), financed by European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA), under the powers delegated by the European Commission (Grant Agreement Nº. 101040850), in the following conditions:

Scientific area: Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychology.

Skills/Qualifications/Admission requirements: Master, with academic studies in the scientific area of Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychology enrolled in a doctoral course.
The fellow is expected to be enrolled in a Ph.D. programme at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences or the Faculty of Medicine / ICNAS at Coimbra University. The PhD topic must be related to the research line "Multilingualism, metacognition and decision-making" .

Although the recipients must be enrolled in a cycle of studies leading to the attribution of an academic degree or in a course not conferring an academic degree, at the time of application it is not necessary for the candidate to have made such an enrollment, and proof of enrollment must be presented until the fellowship is contractualized. Candidates are only required to meet the requirements to enroll in the training offer. If there are candidates already enrolled (including attending a course), they compete on an equal footing with those who are not enrolled.

Work plan/ Objectives: The work plan aims the design and implementation of empirical experiments aimed to develop PhD thesis within the framework of the TypoMetaLing ERC project. The applicant will also support other team members in implementation of experimental work on the project (subject recruitment, preparing experiments and stimuli, running experiments, data analysis, and daily lab maintenance).

Regime: The attribution of the fellowship does not generate or entitle a relation of a legallabour nature, and the fellowship is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime. The fellowship holder is awarded the Fellowship Statute of the UC, in its current wording, according to the Research Fellowship Holder Statute , and according to the Regulation for Research Fellowships of the Foundation for Science and Technology, both in their current wording.

Location: Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação at the University of Coimbra.

Duration: 12 (twelve) months .

Renewal: Eventually renewable and cannot exceed 48 months duration.

Financial conditions: The amount of the fellowship is € 1.259,64 (one thousand two hundred and fifty nine euros and sixty four cents) corresponding to the monthly compensation stipulated in the FCT table (https://www.fct.pt/en/financiamento/programas-definanciamento/ bolsas/), plus social security (Seguro Social Voluntário, first level contributions) and personal accidents insurance. The payment will be made by bank transfer. This amount will not be increased during the entire period of the fellowship duration.

Selection methods: Curricular Evaluation (50%) and Interview (50%).

Selection criteria: The following criteria will be considered in curricular evaluation:
- Absolute merit of curriculum vitae (20%);
- Academic background (10%);
- Academic Knowledge (10%);
- Adequacy of the candidate´s profile to the work plan to be developed (50%).
- Knowledge of foreign languages, particularly English (10%).

For the Interview, the following criteria will be considered:
- Knowledge and profile appropriate to the functions to be developed (100%).

For support in daily lab maintenance, the applicant should familiarize his/herself with at least two of the following techniques: EEG, tDCS, cognitive modeling of behavioural data, physiological measurements (e.g., EMG, skin conductance, respiration, ECG, etc). As the applicant will be enrolled into a PhD program, (s)he is expected to learn experimental paradigms used in cognitive psychology to measure cognitive performance (related to attention, memory, executive functions). Optionally, run meta-analysis, based on the systematic review (if the student has sufficient skills, time reserves, and interest for that).
The programme requirement is to publish two papers in international peer-reviewed journals, hence a good command of English will be valued, along with another language. Educational background or experience in one of the following fields: Psychology / Cognitive Science / Mathematics / Bioengineering / Computational linguistics and typology will be valued. High aptitude for STEM subjects, Python skills will be beneficial. MatLab skills and expertise in (or desire to learn) the signal detection theory is highly beneficial.
The Selection Jury reserves the right not to select any candidate if it is verified that none has the appropriate profile to carry out the functions.

Additional information: The evaluation results will be announced within 90 working days after the end of the applications submission deadline, by notifying the applicants via email. After the announcement of the results, candidates are considered automatically notified to, if they wish to do so, comment on the results on a preliminary hearing period within 10 days after that date. After this, the selected candidates will have to declare in writing their acceptance. Unless a justification worthy of consideration is presented, if the declaration is not submitted within the referred period, it is considered that the candidate waivers the fellowship.
In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the next candidate with the highest evaluation score will be notified immediately.
Once the selection process is completed, the fellowship contract will be drawn up in accordance with the draft contract provided by the FCT.
After the contracted period, the fellowship holder and supervisor must prepare the final report in accordance with the respective assessment criteria that were established.
