COFAC, Cooperativa de Formação e Animação Cultural crl/ Universidade Lusófona, hereby opens a call to recruit a Ph.D. researcher, corresponding to position 195 of the Research Career Statute, under the terms of the applicable legislation, with an Open-Ended Employment Contract, within the scope of contract program between Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. (FCT), and the above-mentioned Cooperative, supported by national funds inscribed in the budget of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) – and carried out at the Research Unit Digital Human-environment Interaction Lab (HEI-Lab), in Lisbon or Porto. This international tender shall be conducted pursuant to the Decree nr. 57/2016, and amended by Law 57/2017, of July 19, and to the Regulatory Decree nr. 11-A/2017, of December 29th.

HEI-Lab is looking for an Assistant Researcher with a PhD in Psychology to i) develop research in the scope of the HEI-Lab’s mission; ii) to contribute to the promotion of the internationalization of the HEI-Lab; iii) to lead and cooperate in competitive national and international funding applications; iv.) to collaborate in training activities in scientific research inserted in the scientific strategy of the HEI-Lab. Proficiency in digital approaches is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • To conceive, develop, submit and execute R&D projects;
  • Propose and collaborate in training activities;
  • Supervising the work of R&D scholarship holders and master's and doctoral students, and collaborating in ongoing projects;
  • Participate in international R&D networks;
  • Participate annually in mobility actions;
  • Participating in editorial boards of scientific journals with international circulation.
  • Assist the director and the management of the HEI-Lab in the pursuit of the mission and in the daily activities of UI&D.

    Contractual terms: 

  • The tasks to be carried out in the fulfillment of this position are those considered in the scope of the Research Unit HEI-Lab - Universidade Lusófona Digital Human-environment Interaction Lab. 
  • The tasks comprehended in the object of the employment contract take place in the facilities of Campo Grande 376, in Lisbon, or in such places deemed necessary to implement the research plan;
  • The monthly remuneration to be paid shall be in the gross amount of 3576.56 Euros in accordance with paragraph a) of No. 1 of Article 15 of Law No. 57/2017, of July 19th, by reference to the 1st grade of the Salary Scale provided for in Article 2 of Regulatory Decree No. 11- A/2017, of December 29th, corresponding to level 33 of the Salary Scale approved by Executive Order No. 1553-C/2008, of December 31st.

  • Eligibility criteria

    1. Position to be filled and terms of open call: 

    a) The call aims to hire a Ph.D. researcher, with an open-ended employment contract. 

    b) National, foreign or stateless Ph.D. researchers may apply to the position. 

     

    2. Cumulatively, the candidate should have the following academic profile: 

    a) Ph.D. degree for over 5 years and track in Psychology. 

    b) Evidence of good work capacity in interdisciplinary environments, organization, and work capabilities. 

    c) Leadership capacity with evidence of scientific and financial management of funded projects 

    d) Experience in supervising doctoral and post-doctoral students. 

    e) Be fluent in both English and Portuguese. Proficiency in other non-portuguese languages will be valued

    In the case of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, under the terms of Decree-Law nº 66/2018 of 16 August, and so as to ensure the application of the principle of equal treatment to candidates holding foreign and national academic degrees, it is mandatory to obtain the recognition of said degrees and the conversion of their respective final score to the Portuguese rating scale. The recognition of foreign academic degrees and diplomas as well as the conversion of the final score to the Portuguese rating scale, should be available at the time of signing the contract. The recognition of foreign academic degrees and diplomas as well as the conversion of the final score to the Portuguese rating scale may be required in any public higher education institution or at the General-Directorate for Higher Education (DGES, only in the case of automatic recognition).     Selection process

    How to Apply:

  • Applications must be formalized, mandatorily, by e-mail to [email protected]  with “Assistant Researcher_COFAC/HEI-LAB/09_2026” (without quotations) as the email subject and with the following documents attached:
  • Presentation letter referring to the reasons that justified the application; 
  • Curriculum "vitae" mentioning professional experience, accompanied by a list of scientific publications produced and participation in funded projects; 
  • Doctoral certificate (If the qualification has been granted by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution.);
  • Identification and contacts with the respective “email” addresses - of at least two academic personalities who attest to the displayed curriculum; 
  • Work plan for the 3-year period to be developed within HEI-Lab mission, compiled by the HEI-Lab I&D Labs (https://hei-lab.ulusofona.pt );
  • Other documents deemed relevant by the candidate that, in their view, may contribute to the demonstration and assessment of their qualifications, experience, and suitability for the position.
  • Excluding the elements mentioned above, the non-compliance, by the interested party, of any of the requirements stated in the previous number determines the preliminary rejection of the application.

    False statements made by candidates will be punished under the law. The competition jury, composed of three members, is appointed by the Board of COFAC, crl. 

     

    Jury composition

    The Jury has three members nominated by COFAC, crl Board. In accordance with the article 13 of Decree-Law nº 57/2016, of 29 August, amended by Law nº 57/2017, of 19 July, the following members were appointed: 

    (i) President - Pedro Santos Pinto Gamito, Director HEI-Lab;

    (ii) Member – Inês Jongenelen, Deputy Director HEI-Lab;

    (iii) Member – Raquel Costa, Executive Director HEI-Lab. 

    Substitute member - Tiago Paiva, Deputy Director HEI-Lab.

     

    The nominated jury is responsible for examining the applications. Minutes of all the jury meetings will be drawn up containing the description of the subjects discussed, as well as the votes cast by each of the members and the grounds for the decisions taken. Applications submitted are evaluated taking into account the quality, timeliness and relevance of the scientific (scientific production and research experience) and professional curricula of the interested parties, as well as the respective adequacy to the proposed work plan.

     

    Evaluation method

    The candidate will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Candidate merit (75%);
  • Interview (25%).
  •  

    The merit of the candidate will consider the following criteria:

  • Presentation letter and work plan, which must be written in English (40%)
  • Professional experience and scientific track record (60%)
  •  

    Each criterion is scored on a scale from 0 to 20. Applicants who do not meet the eligibility criteria will be automatically excluded from assessment. No applicants will be accepted with an overall weighted score in applicant’s merit of less than 15 out of 20. Should no applicants meet the eligibility criteria or applicant’s merit minimum score the jury reserves the right to not award the contract.

    Only candidates with merit score higher than 15 will be admitted to the interview. If the jury chooses not to interview the candidates, the merit of the candidate will correspond to 100% of the candidates' evaluation. Candidates not fulfilling the areas of knowledge requirements will be directly excluded.

    The call is open from 7 of September and 5 pm (Lisbon time) of 27 September 2026.


    Additional comments

    The jury's final deliberation is communicated to the interested parties so that, in the exercise of the right of prior hearing provided for by the Administrative Procedure Code, they can, within 10 working days, pronounce themselves. 

     

    Homologation of Results

    When the deadline for the exercise of the right of prior hearing has expired, the jury’s final decision is certified by the Chairperson of the Executive Committee of COFAC, crl., which is also responsible for deciding on the hiring of the selected applicant. 

     

    Dissemination of results:

    The list of admitted and rejected applicants, as well as their respective final scores, will be posted on the website of HEI-LAB; the applicants will be notified by email.
