A competition is open for the attribution of one work contract for a junior researcher within the scope of the Innovation Pact, Project No. C644915664-00000026, known as the “Blue Bioeconomy Pact”, resulting from the submission of the application to Notice No. 02/C05 -i01/2022, within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), at the Research Unit - Interdisciplinary Research Center Marine and Environmental, for the exercise of activities in the WP7-FISH, according to the following conditions:

1. Scientific area: Animal Science.

2. General admission requirements: Any national, foreign and stateless candidate(s) who a) hold a doctorate degree in Animal Science or related areas; b) is (are) certified by DGAV (or FELASA or equivalent system) as a researcher/coordinator authorized for executing and designing procedures using animals for scientific purposes (category C) ; c) with at least ten scientific articles in an indexed journal with an impact factor in the Web of Science or SJR (Scimago Journal Rank); c) with a Scopus or Publons h-index (Web of Science) equal to or greater than 8; d) immediate availability to be clearly mentioned in the motivation letter.

In the event the degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16/-8 until the signature of the contract.

The jury reserves the right to close the application in case none of the candidates meets the desired profile.

3. Specific admission requirements: Candidates must have previous skills and experience in:

  • Proven experience in aquaculture research, particularly in marine species nutrition;
  • Proven experience and autonomy in the design and execution of growth and nutrient utilization trials using marine animals;
  • Proven experience on physiology and metabolic studies on marine species;
  • Experience in participating and/or coordinating R&D aquaculture projects, national or regional, funded on a competitive basis;
  • Demonstrated experience in dissemination activities in international and national congresses, meeting and workshops;
  • Good knowledge of English and Portuguese, both written and spoken;
  •  

    4. Working plan: The selected candidate will be integrated into the project team led by INOVAMAR, LDA, WP7-FISH, in the research group Feed and Seafood Quality at CIIMAR. Within the scope of fish sustainability and quality, SONAE MC, leader of the FISH vertical, will have the support of specialized companies in intelligent image processing software development, and NESII, such as the University of Minho and Aveiro, CIIMAR, INESTEC, and CoLab B2E. Regarding aquaculture, the focus will be on adding value to low trophic accessory species produced by natural recruitment in different production systems including multi-trophic models. CIIMAR will be responsible by the evaluation of these species biomass potential as a resource for aquafeeds. The candidate will be responsible for various experimental activities, namely, a) sampling, b) evaluating the potential of accessory species biomass as a resource for aquafeeds, through in vivo trials, d) data processing and e) results interpretation. The candidate will also be involved various project management tasks: a) laboratory maintenance (acquisitions and stock management); b) preparation of reports and deliverables; c) participation in project meetings with the various business partners; d) preparation of manuscripts and other forms of result communication, including dissemination and exploitation activities. The selected candidate will also be expected to strengthen existing national collaborations and networks with industrial partners, as well as create initiatives to support and manage new research activities.

    5. Legislation and official rules: Article 140, number 2, line g) and article 148, number 5 of the Labour Code approved Law no. 7/2009 of 12th February, and updates.

    6. Workplace: The work will be carried out in the Laboratory of Feed and Seafood Quality located at CIIMAR – Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research, Novo Terminal de Cruzeiros do Porto de Leixões, Av. General Norton de Matos s/n, 4450-208 Matosinhos, Portugal, under the supervision of the group's Principal Investigator, Full Professor Luísa M. P. Valente.

    7. Duration of the contract: An uncertain term work contract will be signed starting on January 2024, under the regime of exclusivity, according to legal terms (articles n. 140, no 1 and no 2, g; and article n. 148, − Labour Code and article 6, no 1 b) e no 3 from Decree-Law n. 57/2016, de 29 -8).

    8. Monthly salary: The monthly remuneration to be attributed is that provided for in paragraph nº 1 of article 15 of the RJEC, in the wording introduced by Law nº 57/2017 from 19-7, corresponding to level of Doctorate Junior Researcher, level 33 of the single remuneration table, approved by Administrative Rule no. 1553-C / 2008, 31-12, updated with DL n.º 109-A/2021, de 7-12, corresponding to 2 228,11 € (two thousand two hundred and twenty eight euros and eleven cents).

    9. Selection methods: The Scientific and Curricular Career Evaluation (SCCE) focuses on the three strands described below and the final classification is obtained by the following formula: APCC = 0.4 × Academic Qualifications (AQ) + 0,5 × Scientific and Curricular Evaluation (SCE) + 0,1 × Motivation and Capacity for Innovation (MCI)

    If necessary, the jury may interview the first 3 candidates to clarify aspects related to the research results. This interview will be graded on a scale from 0 to 20 and will have a relative weight of 10% and the previous evaluation a relative weight of 90%.

    9.1. Academic Qualifications (AQ)

    Evaluation of the candidate's training area: PhD in scientific area: Biological Sciences, with a thesis topic related to aquaculture, particularly in nutrition of marine species, AQ = 5 values; PhD in related areas, AQ = up to 3 values.

    9.2. Scientific and Curricular Evaluation (SCE)

    The evaluation will focus on: a) the relevance, quantity and quality of scientific production: publications in ISI journals in the area of aquaculture and marine animals nutrition; b) dissemination, extension and management activities. This evaluation is based on the parameters described below and their classification is obtained by the following formula: Scientific and Curricular Evaluation (SCE) = 0.8 × Scientific Production (SP) + 0.2 × Research, Extension and Management Activities (RA)

    9.2.1. Scientific Production (SP)

    Evaluation of the Scientific Production (SP) of the last five years considered most relevant by the candidate. The classification is obtained by the following formula: Scientific Production (SP) = 0.6 × Quantitative Evaluation (SPV) + 0.4 × Qualitative evaluation (SPQ).

    Quantitative evaluation (SPV): Publications in ISI journals in the area of preference, SPV = up to 5 points; Publications in related areas, SPV = up to 3 points; Publications in other areas, SPV = 1 points.

    Qualitative evaluation (SPQ): Candidates must provide copies of up to 5 articles that they deemed most relevant, other publications of high scientific merit, or patents; SPQ = up to 5 points.

    The five-year period referred to in the preceding paragraph by the panel can be extended, at the request of the candidate, when justified on grounds of suspension of scientific activity for socially protected reasons, namely for reasons of parental leave, prolonged serious illness, and other situations of unavailability for work legally protected.

    9.2.2. Research, Extension, and Management Activities (RA)

    The scientific dissemination, extension and management activities developed are evaluated, focusing on the last five years. This parameter includes: (i) proven experience in participating and coordinating R&D projects, both national and international, funded on a competitive basis, (ii) proven experience in dissemination activities in national and international workshops, meeting and congresses. Activities in the area of preference, DEM = up to 5 points; activities in related areas, DEM = up to 3 points; activities in other areas, DEM= 1 point.

    9.3. Motivation and Capacity for Innovation (MCI)

     Evaluation of the candidate's motivation and ability to innovate, based on the motivation letter describing the relevance of the scientific path to the position and personal career goals: MCI = up to 5 values.

    The panel shall deliberate by means of a roll-call vote justified under adopted and disclosed selection criteria, with no abstentions allowed. Minutes of panel meetings shall be executed and shall include a summary of all occurrences of said meeting, as well as of all votes cast by the members and respective reasoning, and shall be provided to candidates whenever required. After the selection criteria application, the panel shall prepare a sorted list of approved candidates and their respective classifications. The panel’s final decision shall be validated by the leader of the institution, who is also in charge of deciding about the hiring.

    10. Composition of the jury selection: In accordance with article 13 of RJEC and according to the respective order of nomination, the competition jury has the following composition:

    12. Form of advertising/notification of results: The results of the first step of the evaluation (pre-selection) will be published on the website of CIIMAR and sent by e-mail. The candidates have a 10-working day term in which to contest the decision, if they so wish, as provided for in the "Código do Procedimento Administrativo", in a preliminary hearing setting.

    Panel’s final decisions are pronounced within a maximum period of 90 days, counting from deadline for submission of applications.

    Tender is exclusively destined to fill this specify vacancy and can be terminated at any time until approval of final candidate list, expiring with the respective occupation of said vacancy.
