Title and Description of the Research Project:

Structure and Agency: Transnational and School Transitions of Forced Migrant Children from Ukraine in Poland

The aim of the project is to investigate transnational transitions, involving changes in social, cultural, and educational contexts in the situation of migration. The project focuses on Ukrainian youth with experience of forced migration (FMA) in Poland (in two cities: Warsaw and Lublin). We will examine in detail the school transitions (middle-to-high-school transitions) of Ukrainian youth during forced migration. We will investigate how young migrants (aged 13-17), who left Ukraine due to the Russian invasion in 2022, create new models of socialization during the critical period of social and academic transition from primary to secondary school in Poland.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting research preparation in the second location, Lublin
  • Recruitment of research participants and conducting interviews with representatives of institutions shaping migration and educational policies
  • Supporting the recruitment process of children and parents living in Lublin
  • Conducting interviews with children and parents
  • Supporting the Principal Investigator (PI) and doctoral student in the implementation of WP 2, 3, and 5 (conducting qualitative research)
  • Preparation of at least one publication from the project or two co-authored publications (where the author is the PI or doctoral student)
  • Publication of research results
  • Participation in team meetings
  • Participation in the academic life of the Research Center Młodzi w Centrum USWPS

Skills/Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. degree in social sciences, in sociology or related disciplines (obtained no later than September 30, 2024)
  • Over 5 years of research experience
  • Proficient knowledge of Polish and English
  • Knowledge of the context of children's migration from Ukraine
  • Knowledge of educational policies for children in Poland
  • Willingness to engage in scientific and research life
  • Research interests in the sociology of childhood, migration, education, migration and educational policies, peer relationships
  • Willingness to develop research skills and collaborate with the research center Młodzi w Centrum USWPS
  • Knowledge of social research methodology

Specific Requirements
  • Knowledge of Ukrainian language will be a significant advantage
